As someone with ADHD this is the most realistic advice for any hobby you're interested in EVER. That's just how it works.

As someone who crochets regularly and also started with granny squares:
I made one granny square and didn’t pick up a crochet hook for two years
I made seven Bees in one weekend

The idea of having a little stuffed animal by the end of it is SO motivating

100% correct. Stuffed animals are my absolute favourite things to make. Attainable mission, can see visible progress, clear end goal and you get a cute prize when you're done. Dopamine and serotonin!

“Every single row is a new mission to unlock in your brain.”
That is my favourite line today. Thank you.

“it has EYES” *shrugs* “that’s cute”
is me describing a new crush I barely know

*nervously glances over to the four squares I made 2 months ago*

ADHD here—I just started doing Tunisian crochet and the instant gratification is rocking my world. Highly recommend 💕

As someone who crochets and doesn't have ADHD;

Do not start with granny squares, start with stuffed animals 😂

Honestly its a good advice for everyone. Just pick a chibi, round toy to start with.

As an adhd crocheter, this is 1000% accurate! Stuffed animals are nearly all I crochet! (Winter hats are also an ok starting place)

I’ve been crocheting for 39 years. Just a little over a months ago. I started making granny squares for a blanket and I now have 197 done. Still making more. They’re so fun and easy to make.

This is so accurate. As someone with ADHD, the only crochet project I've ever finished was a stuffed animal

My adhd friend got into crocheting and the only thing she’s been making is bees, tiny squids, scarfs and hats for the bees it’s literally so adorable 😭

My mom literally made "unfinished" blankets because the cats liked to lay on them, and 1-2 squares is the perfect size for a cat blanket. The first one was actually cuz she started a blanket and the cat laid on it constantly so she just left that one and restarted with a slightly different pattern to leave the cat's tile unique

I made a big triceratops in one weekend. Cannot bring myself to even try to make anything else besides plushies. My mom spent two years on two two big blankets 😭 but man one time i had to make 11 jellyfish plushies in four days. Easy.

I started with hats! I have a box of almost 200 granny squares unassembled in a box & I feel so borked with putting it together. It was gonna be a minecraft creeper blanket. XD I love making cup cozies, fingerless gloves, hats, ponchos & cat-carrying sacks (I made a beach-bag but cuz my cats love being toted around it turned into a cat carrier 😂) but I did end up finishing 2 granny square projects - one, a diamond pickaxe from minecraft, it's small, made of single row granny squares so I had less to connect. The other was a massive blanket made from old granny squares with pretty rainbow yarn from the 80's from a blanket that never got finished by my adhd parent passed onto me, one of 3 adhd kiddos, that I frogged, & remade & added some new yarn & doesn't even look like most of it is almost 35 year old yarn! 🥰
