Ooh, I like the “Doesn’t fit” basket idea. It’s inspiring me. I might set up a small “Needs repair” basket too. Those clothes can end up getting washed, put away, tried on, and thrown into the dirty clothes in an endless cycle because it’s an easy place to toss clothes they can’t use.

My youngest graduated high school this year so I am done with back to school forever. Yay 😃 I am excited for me.

I bought tall, brand new kitchen trash bins (white plastic with hamper lid) that sit at the bottom of every closet in my house, against the wall. I put a sticker on the lid that says "donate" and that's where we all toss clothes, shoes, etc. as we outgrow or stop wearing them. They easily fit into my car trunk so once or twice a year I drive them to Goodwill, and the guys dump them out into a cart and hand me my bins back. Super easy!

I used to think I was wasting my time reorganizing but you’re so right, it helps because the end result is usually better. Sometimes only by a little, sometimes by a lot but always better

I like the stackable drawers. For me the order matters. Top drawer, underwear & socks (as I put these on first). Second drawer, shirts. Third drawer, every day pants or shorts. Bottom drawer, stuff I don't use as often but need handy, like pj's or swimsuits (so I don't have to bend so low everyday). Now if your child sits on the floor and dresses, maybe bottom up may work, but my brain works top down best. 💕🌞🌵😷

Thinking about when I was a kid, my mom was not a tidy person, her system was a pile of clean and a pile of dirty😂. When I got to high school my parents moved and I started keeping things clean, partly because I wanted to have people over and partly because she wouldn't come in and mess things up when she was mad anymore. My high school locker was so clean and tidy 😂. I remember my teachers commenting on it, they were surprised. I wasn't the best student but I was organized. Every Friday before leaving I'd take 5/10 minutes to tidy it and haven't ready for Monday. My room was the same. After my mom moved, I'd already been doing laundry myself, I got baskets and started keeping things organized myself. My embarrassment over the entire home being a mess was the reason I kept my room clean. My mom never cleaned it and after I was 10 she rarely did laundry for me. Not judging you just sharing my story. Your kids will figure it out as they grow. Maybe just let it become a mess and let them figure it out because they're too embarrassed to invite friends over.😊

I tried the doesn't fit basket and my son used it for laundry he didn't want to put away or that he changed his mind on and didn't want to hang back up. Also occasionally for dirty clothes he didn't want to walk to the laundry basket. Didn't work for us but glad it worked for you.

My boys share a room, I struggle to keep their clothes sorted, have even labeled the containers with color coded shapes.

I just use a box in the kids closet for small clothing. This way I don't have to transfer from a nice container when it's time to donate. I just close the box and go.

As a mom of four, the only trick that worked was: minimalism. They each had eight tops eight bottoms. Easy peasy.
