I recently read an article and the author suggested therapists should be in call 24/7. I did not appreciate that article. Thank you for your video and overall healthy worldview!

Omg thank you … I’m new to this and it is becoming overwhelming for me as my clients tent extent sessions and not want to end when the time is up. I really needed to hear that. Thank you ❤

Thank you for talking about this topic. I think both the client and the therapist can feel resentment if the relationship isn't balanced, if one dominates the relationship, whether it's the client or the therapist. I had the opposite experience of what you're describing where the therapist was very authoritarian and punitive right from the very first meeting, using threats to terminate me if I wrote to her outside of session. I tried to express my concern and distress, but she was unwilling to negotiate with me. Eventually, my resentment towards her built up and therapy couldn't continue.

Sheesh, therapy is a lot different here in the US. Idk how I'd even get at my therapist on a Sunday morning hah. Although, you did say it was 20 years ago!!

Oh myyy. I commented too soon!! Woowww you really wanted to be there for people. I'm glad you were able to get comfortable with setting boundaries. What a situation to be in!

What would you suggest to do when you see clients in person, and after the one hour session they want to talk some more or have further questions?

Why would you answer the phone on day off? Just let it go to voicemail

People who have had abusive backgrounds can find boundaries problematic. Its not their fault. Its up to the therapist to set the boundaries. If they don't it can have terrible consequences.
