Missing teen jumped off ship into ‘really shark infested’ water: official | New York Post

The Louisiana high school graduate who disappeared after leaping off a cruise ship into dark waters off the Bahamas last week may have met a grisly fate in the “shark-infested” area, a local official said.

The waters off Athol Island, where 18-year-old Cameron Robbins was last seen swimming after jumping off the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise on May 24, are “really shark-infested,” Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) Commodore Raymond King told The Daily Mail on Tuesday.

A chaotic video taken moments after the jump overboard also shows the Baton Rouge native ignoring onlookers’ pleas for him to grab a buoy and swim in the opposite direction – prompting social media sleuths to suggest that a silvery reflection near the boat’s hull may have actually been a shark that scared him off.

One of the best decisions I made in high school was to ditch a group of "friends" I had who were like this.

Jumping into shark infested waters off of a moving cruise ship at night is probably the dumbest thing you can do

Jealous friends will dare you to do life threatening things.

imagine 2 sharks ripping your limbs off and dragging you under water, and people are screaming "grab the bouy"

Not all mistakes you can learn from, some mistakes are only made once and you’re done no matter your age, life and death don’t care about your age

People can say all they want about the other "friends" forcing him but at the end of it, him seeking validation is what killed him. Egos get you killed or hurt.

What a fool! 2 years later, he would realize that those high school "friends" mean nothing. I mean, who was he trying to impress? What was the point of this? Clout is a disease.

To all the people saying “sharks don’t attack humans” sharks are in hunting mode at night. And this was in the open ocean, not on a beach. Plus this is in the Bahamas where there are literally sharks everywhere. Bull sharks and Tiger sharks are known to attack humans. There were probably multiple sharks underneath the water. I think this kid got dragged down by them.

I was a teenager once. Never would I think it’s a great idea to jump off a moving cruise ship at night.

One of my lessons as a kid growing up, was that my mother always said, “if someone dared you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?” Of course not. Actions have consequences.

For centuries ships have conditioned sharks to follow them for food and other things thrown out into the water. This guy jumped onto a shark’s dinner plate.

This is so depressing and sad, a life was lost over a dare. It was so preventable. Seriously kids, if someone dares you to do something, you don't actually have to do it. It's not worth it.

The kid who said "oh bye bye" you are a real piece of work.

People don't realize that sharks follow cruise ships because people throw scraps of food overboard all the time. It doesn't matter that you're an avid swimmer, a school of sharks will rip you to pieces.

Horrific way to go for anyone, let alone someone his age. That family will never be same

Young man had his whole life ahead of him, possibly 60 years of life. Lots of opportunities and experiences thrown away over one dumb decision, which we've all made at least once when we were young. That's devastating.

That one guy that said "BYE BYE" is a guy i wouldnt trust. Disgusting reaction.
Those were probably one of the last words Cameron could make out in his state of panic.

"Your friends wouldnt jump off a moving cruise ship at night into shark infested waters...so why would you?"

That definitely looked like a fin. He was probably very panicked and scared. What a horrible way to die. I’m just imagining the thoughts that went through his head and how he was probably trying to figure out what to do and then he was gone. My son is about to be 19 and the thought of his body being eaten by sharks makes my heart clench. I hate that this happened to him and his family.

Just all around sad. Sad they dared him, sad he did it, sad he’s dead, sad for his family. Sad a group of children watched their friend disappear and perish unnecessarily. It will stay with everyone until their last day.🙏🏼
