There are very few articles, blogs, videos, etc. on what fine art photography truly is. It is a term that has been mistakenly absorbed into modern day photography in recent times. It is refreshing to see someone define it how it is meant to be. I am a fine art photographer. i use mixed media, multi-exposure (25 exposures as a minimum) watercolor, sculptures, and more. The one point I would like to make is that it should be sub grouped into digital and film as they are quite different. I am a large format film fine art photographer. It is quite a bit more challenging and in my opinion more artistic in the creation of a fine art photograph than digital is. There is no computer editing involved and doing it with large format film is more satisfying to me as I have total control over the entire process with mistakes that are unable to be corrected. Fine art photography is awesome and it trancends normal photography in spades. But digital and film need to be seperated in this genre as one is much more difficult, and in my opinion film is much more rewarding.

I have been searching for 'something' and this is it. So pleased to have come across your wonderful exposition of fine art photography. A blank space has been filled for me. No, I was searching for a door in the dark and I stumbled on it.

Thank you Martin Osner.

Martin, I have no interest in using these techniques, but the information you share in this video I found to be invaluable, and I find so often Artist are reluctant to show others what they know which, to my thinking, stifle the growth of photography. Thank you for sharing. John.

This is probably the best explanation of Fine Art Photography that I've seen. Come to find out, I've actually been doing some of these for quite a while not even knowing it was considered art - I was just "fooling around". You've given me a starting point, thank you!

I’ve recently started thinking of experimenting multiple photographs, but didn’t know I had the option to do it in-camera. To boot, I loved being introduced to other techniques. Incredibly inspired! Thank you!

I sometimes experiment with my mobile phone when I see an unusual opportunity. I like that layering effect you described. One time I was heading on a near empty bus towards Melbourne. It was a 3 hour journey and it was dusk. The setting sun came from the right side and I was sitting on the left side trying to take landscape photos during golden hour but I was getting right side view reflected on the left side window. It made for some interesting layering effects after I deliberately did some heavy editing. Some shots looked like the trees were on fire and the slow shutter speed added to the dreamy effect, giving a painterly look. Great way to pass the time on a slow trip.
