The true nature of life and our purpose within the universe is something that we may never fully comprehend. When we look for a conclusive and absolute answer to the meaning of life, we quickly find that there appears to be none. So what do we do with a life that has no meaning beyond itself? We create the meaning.

The universe doesn’t care about our existence or welfare and our lives have meaning only to the extent that we give them meaning. Every single moment that we were alive is miraculous, not miraculous in the supernatural sense. We are the beneficiaries of chance being alive. We are insignificant and only important to family and friends, but life is not meaningless as we create meaning through having a purposeful life that feels good to live and goals worthy of pursuing.

Meaning is something that one has to impute after the fact. Does my life have meaning? Yes. To whom does it have meaning? To me (if not also to someone else). Why does it have meaning to me? Because I am imputing meaning to it. Suffice it to say, if I were to go around looking for meaning before the fact of my deliberate imputation of it, I'd never find it.

'The meaning of human life is simply to create meaning'. According to this video. Anyone with a basic grasp of meaning will find this 'happy ending' absurdly circular. It's a lot like saying 'the meaning of pizza, is to create pizza'. Or 'the meaning of art, is to create art.'


A distinction has to be drawn between personal meanings like "I love blue cheese, there fore cheese has meaning for me" and universal meanings - truth, beauty, ethics, purpose etc. What this video is trying to do is elevate personal meanings to the status of universal meaning. It's the same old 1960s baby boomer logic of 'hey everyone be cool and do your own thing'.
It's like saying 'if blue cheese has meaning for you, that's your meaning in life, ' and 'if jogging has meaning for you, that your meaning in life'. Its easy to see that this argument is flawed, and that meaning in this usage if being reduced down to likes and preferences.

What a joke! First we deny that there is meaning to declare life meaningless. Afterwards, we try attributing meaning to that what we have declared meaningless.
But then again, only a monkey believes he's a monkey because he's assumingly no longer swinging in trees!
