It’s actually interesting when you think about it all of this actually stays true for his character throughout the entire series.
He keeps putting on façades, playing as different kinds of people.
And it isn’t Until the last game with him in it, that he reveals that he does have a cause worth dying for.
It is only then that he fights with all he has fully aware that he hast to go down.

Is there a lore reason how tf he manages to fight off a swarm of bugs by twirling his guns?

Ocelot fetishizes war without suffering the true consequences of it.

He’s the player, basically.

Interestingly enough, american cowboy films were pretty popular with russians in the Soviet Union.

I wonder if Kojima knew that or if Ocelot's nationality was a lucky coincidence.

Tell me snake, is it true that in capitalist america, the cowboy is the strongest force man has ever seen?

The guy has a complicated history. He's the true son of The Boss and The Sorrow, has latent psychic abilities from his father, has worked against and for pretty much every major player in the series, and he still gets his end goal of killing the Patriot System from the inside.

Never knew the first boss of the game would go on to become a major character throughout the franchise when I first played it. I also blame him for my love of using any sort of revolver in a video game when I come across one.

Ocelot for me represents how war is for a certain type of people. In all honesty he also represents how in history country leaders know how war is...its a fun game for them. They know how soldiers will fight believing its to protect the country, saving people or inspiring others. And they don't care at all.

Ocelot represents how in the end these leaders don't care. All they know is that in the end war never changes so all they do is simply enjoy the spectacle. That's why he survived the beginning of MGS because he knew War at the end of the day is just violence disguised for so called honor.

I'm sure he reminds me of leaders who do get along in secret, and simply hide it because to them war is their playground. Who cares about honor or celebrating nationalism when they all know the victor goes to the spoils.

"Because he doesn’t believe in anything enough to die for it."
Oohohohohoooo if you only Kidding. Ocelot also falls under the magnificent bastard trope as well.

Quite literally the only person who is more of a westaboo than ocelot is kojima himself

So what I'm hearing is that he's fighting his own war and he has no rules. No boundaries. He doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking, or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or country or any set of ideals. He trades blood for money.

That's such a cool breakdown of a character. You could see the theatrical costume and just dismiss him as the designers not caring about realism and just throwing in random things, but there's a reason behind his costume. He's distancing himself from the realities of war, it's all a game. And the idea that war as a concept is what these characters are fighting for or against, but Ocelot survives because war can't touch him, he's basically protected himself from death by not giving a care about other people or the effects his actions have.

These shorts are doing a pretty good job of convincing me to put the Metal Gear Solid games on my backlog.

In that way he is a Murder Hobo: the archetypal character who keeps no attachment to the world so the world can’t use that to destroy him.

Well, it os explained in MGS4 that Ocelot has always been loyal to Big Boss, and on the end he evend died because of his cause.

He does believe in something, he’s been working for big boss the whole time.
