What Does the Electron Look Like?

I remember talking to a PhD Professor in a university tour I went, after an extensive conversation She said that yes, particles are just something we use to experiment, not a description of reality, so although we can think about quantums as particles, it doesn't mean they are actually particles.

Now I definitely have some books to put right in front of my "to read" list.

Thanks!

At last a sensible approach to quantum field theory.

I have made an earnest effort to understand zero point fields and vacuum states, it wasn't until i watched this video that I realized my intuition was correct and particles are not the basis of reality, fields are. Now if I can only understand if fields enter into black holes as i expect they do, do they also exit or are fields broken by their extremes

Agree, but couldn't on the idea that mass increase with speed. Its momentum which doesn't increase linearly with speed which limits speed of object.

Little difference depends on the point of view. Being sensible people to get the work done does not mean that we should be less concerned about searching for the answers at quantum or cosmic levels.

Electron wave in orbit and particle during potential drop or rise in union with a photon exchanged.

What a great presentation. Quantum physics absolutely fascinates me. I really wish I had picked physics instead of computer science. :(

Well it is easier to think of electron as a field when we see and touch things in reality. Because it is not quite convinced when explaining that electrons (as particles) orbit fast enough around nuclear so we can feel things solid.

I'm sticking with vibrations make waves, and waves make particles. I have seen and made many models (some even possible) of electrons and was hoping that this would add to my collection of possibilities. Bummer.

Prof Brooks your Book is awesome but, Could you explain if the yellow part is the electron? You says the quantum of energy of the electron field collapses in the atom and then behaves has a particule. But if what we see surronding in yellow color around the nucleos is the collapsed electron it looks like a cloud not a particule behaviour, jus like Schorindger pointed. Also if the electron is the yellow part that means it has q position breaking the incertitud heisemberg principle. Could you explain it more in detail?

I really want to understand how this quantum system works and still strugling with quantum mechanics. So far everything looks so weird. How could an object has wave properties and particle properties at the same time?? That's really blowing my mind.

What does it mean in quantum field theory that the wave function of an electron represents the intensity of the electron field and not the probability of finding an electron?

I am confused about that statemebt, so the electron in an atom is the whole yellow portion, i mean the field, and inside that field the electron charge is going from place to place ? Or the yellow part is the electron field and the electron goes as an exaltation of that electron field surronding the atom from place to place over the atom ?

Please someone help me

Large amount of atoms in a space more gravity, fewer atoms in a space less gravity . Could every atom put out what we call a gravity wave ???

Science relies on evidence, while belief in God does not, and therefore a scientist speaking about god is a confusing paradox.

It's really hard to take anything about this presentation seriously after God shows-up in the arguments right off the bat.

Dr Brooks sometimes you refer to your audience as people that have no scientific background and sometimes you refer to them as if they had been doing physics all their lives.

of course in human terms "look like" = photons bouncing off electrons like they do to define our perception of solid objects

He started his presentation with I the atomic world is imaginary; a belief. Electrons are imaginary. Believe in god or believe in science; they are both belief systems. Who created the computer, god,  science or?
