This Is Not What an Atom Looks Like

What does an atom look like? Throughout history scientists and philosophers have attempted to answer this question. As a result, they've come up with some useful models for understanding the building blocks of our universe.

They should have started the explanation mid-intro, that would've been funny

Q: What did Rutherford say when his gold-foil experiment failed to prove the old "plum pudding" model?
A: "Curses! Foiled again!"

Now I know what the pun 'Never trust an atom, they make up everything' is about...

Comments in a nutshell:
"Why is there around my anus?"
"First!"
"Uhh... I already know this, therefore everyone must because I have the exact same experiences as everyone else on the planet."

I like the way you break down the information so that something so complicated, like an atom, can be understood. I love science, but I'm not a scientist. So a channel such as yours is exactly what I need. 😁

Great Video! I study Chemistry at degree level (second year) and can tell you that a combination of these representations is the best way to understand the theories taught. Each has clarity in its own respect but knowing these different models aids in understanding complex systems.

Way more relaxed and natural nowadays, Olivia. Nicely done! And thanks for the info.

Hey! An Olivia's video with more likes than dislikes, and with comments discussing the topic rather than discussing her! What a happy day! You're much better than when you first started, Olivia. Glad you got through the negativity of viewers.

Even a decade ago when I was in high school, that was one of the first things our science teacher told us when introducing that model. It's pretty common knowledge that that model of the atom is outdated and inaccurate, but they still teach it because it's "good enough" for that level of understanding.

Why is the last word of every paragraph spoken in a gravelly voice an octave lower than everything else? Is that a Montana thing? It sounds very San Fernando...

I really like Olivia Gordon's narrating style. And she's improved leaps and bounds since she first started.
