This is literally the best advice I've found for starting a comic omfg
All the other advice I found was basically UWU JUST START IT!! :D This is actually solid advice I can work with, and has completely changed how I want to start my story. I wasn't happy with my ideas before. This has given me something I am much happier with, AND has given me a way to check that it accurately represents the story. Thank you for this <3 Truly

Have a dog die and have the protagonist drink pee. That's how you start one of the best stories ever.

There's some really great advice here. "If your comic is about space battles" open up with a scene about space battles". This really stuck with me and now I'm reworking my beginning. Thanks!

Watched this after starting drawing the beginning scene of my comic...
*whew* turns out I was pretty fortunate with what scene I chose.
It starts with a casual conversation implying an overall struggle for survival, both romantic & friendly relationships, families, competition, travel, growth, and after the conversation is a moment of thrill followed by a character death. Seems to summarize the themes pretty well xD
A pleasant shift from seeing a video about comic advice and realizing how much I've messed up on what I've already done.

If I’m writing an epic fantasy story in which the world is beginning to experience wild magical phenomena that nobody can pinpoint the cause of, but everybody is in a frenzy to solve- how would I begin that? I want to start making a webcomic, I’ve got the whole story outline ready. The only thing holding me back is character design, coloring, background design and image size (because some sites have specific sizes that best fits for readers). I can work this out one by one but since I’m mostly precoccupied by school work, I can’t even start a draft strip.

The thing you were talking about with it starting with a space battle and then being a slice of life was my experience with sword art online except I thought it was gonna be a cool sci do on the first episode but it turned into a cheesy romance.

This was actually probably one of the best videos I’ve seen so far. The tip about that first page/chapter with themes and genre expectations really helped. I’m definitely gonna spend some times going over the first episodes/chapters of stories I love and see what drew me in and if the ending lived up to the initial impressions.

You mentioning how being disappointed at an ending could be because of what was promised with the beginning blew my mind because this happens to me frequently with anime, and now i feel so enlightened

When I was a kid, I started this book called Can of Worms and it started with these amazing alien space scenes but it turned out that it was just this kids' imagination
