I can’t even draw a thumbnail of a page in 5 hours…

3:15 made me remember how in sixth grade me and one of my classmates used to draw stick figure comics, they were one page long, and were basically just one big fight, but it was super fun coming to school every monday and showing each other those pages, what kind of fights we thought up and how we played with the pacing and mostly visuals, I remeber one time I decided that just stick figures were boring so I added some perspective, like a camera going around the figures, a first person pov and just things like that, it made them more enjoyable to draw and look at. even tho it wasn't much, hopefully it helped form an at least decent base of skill and understanding of perspective. now it has been a year since i started to kind of draw more often, but I haven't really got to learning anything about art, it just kind of happens that I kind of know how to draw and my friends have been saying that I have a talent for it, so I want to try and improve my skills to not let it go to waste, especially since I enjoy it so much. this video has inspired me to try and make a comic of my own, thank you.

working on a huge (heavily manga influenced) webcomic and this is actually so helpful
for now i'm just messing around drawing my characters so i can get a feel of what it might actually be like if i were to make the final versions of these little drafts but..
soon enough i'll be using this to start working on it all

I’ve been waiting this my entire life, I’m still drawing characters and still haven’t done the whole story and everything yet

Oh, finally! Someone that gives advices that I can actually follow instead of talking generically for hours... Thanks a lot, I'm looking forward for this series!

this actually works, i'm not even kidding.
like not exactly the 5 hrs thing and it being your first comic, but the fact that you can finish something you can be proud of in a span of only a few hours.

a friend's birthday was coming up in two days (and i even have little free time to draw cause i was busy) and i wanted to draw a hypothetical scene for their fanfiction as a gift. because of the deadline i had less time and energy to stress about it being perfect and only focused on finishing it on time. i even tried something new (technique-wise) along the way and was happy with it. and they liked it very much even though it was messy as hell 😅

i wish i have this same rushed yet effective process on all my other comic projects, otherwise i would have finished so much this year. i'm hoping to fix this 😭

i always think those manga creators are so skilled but then i remember what i'm doing is drawing on a paper with a pencil and what they're doing is on a computer which makes a HUGE difference and makes me feel like i can do better if i get the chance :). Im not saying manga writers arent skilled

Oh my god THANK YOU

I have been so tired of hearing the same "keep you big comic project for later and work on something simpler to practice" because it's so discouraging to me to just be told to do something else instead of the thing I actually want to do, so this is actually such a neat solution to that dilemma

What a timing! Just starting my first comic. I gotta say. This is a solid an advice as it gets.
1. Get your resources
2. Put a 5hrs timer on
3. Start making your comic with the skills you have.
4. Finish the damn comic.

I would add ...

5. Repeat ( don't just repeat ... )
5.a. Share it
5.b. Notice what you did well & repeat
5.c. Notice what you can improve & improve it.

6. Finish the damn comic ( at your current skill )

Repeat ( don't just repeat ... )

Etc.

That's really inspiring ! I really want to draw a first draft for stories I have, but I really struggle on shrinking them to fit 5-10 pages story ://

The universe sent me a sign. I started writing a comic idea a couple of days ago. Then, I thought...I have no idea what I'm doing. I started doing research, which then lead to "research" aka procrastination. I saw this video on my feed just now and watch it...I'm convinced, I should just start the draft. Thanks for the push! I look forward to more pushes in the future!

Wow, I'm honestly schocked. This is how I did it im middle school. That was a while ago and now im trying to get into the swing of things again and That's what I was going to do again but thought "I'm an adult, I should think of a more professional way to approach this" then I saw this video telling me, essentially, "just sit down and make it." Very reassuring, thank you!

Looooved this. Trying to run a marathon in your free time will just result in a lot of unfinished races. Got to lower the stakes and give yourself easier wins.
