To be honest, I 100% understand not wanting to give your precious characters flaws. That being said, I like to think of them flawlessly, hang on to that, but then ask myself "What development did they go through to be this person? When I think of my best qualities, what parts of myself did I have go work on to maintain or even learn to have that quality?" Considering the perfect version of them to be the person I'm using the story to work them into helps to keep me from feeling like I've ruined their image. Instead, I'm building it.

I love how these hairstyle memes end up also being like character emotion sheets.

You know your art block won’t last long when cosmic spectrum posts a video:0

I don't know much about Sock yet but just from his visual design and the little snippets of personality we can see from the art of him you've done, I already love this greasy little rat boy lol

When you explained how you picture scenes in your head like a fully fleshed movie and these scenarios are often sad/emotionally intense, you are not alone! I honestly thought i was the only one making up scenarios with my characters from my story in my head like that! And even when I listen to music.

I related so much because that's literally exactly my thought process of how i come up with some scenes for my story. In fact, it's the most fun and easy way, too! than having to squeeze ideas out of my brain when writing the episode scripts and my brain doesn't wanna cooperate. I literally jumped out of my couch, saying, "YES!!" When you explained how you come up with scenes in your head and how you visualize them as a full-on movie! I've never related so much to a fellow webcomic creator before! 🥹💜 I literally thought i was the only one, dude!😅

And can i just say? Your art looks so good! I love watching you draw, makes me wanna pick up the pen and draw as well💜
I am looking forward to more webcomic related videos! 😁

Sorry for the long ass paragraph...

For some reason I always find myself coming back to this specific video when I’m in a slump. Never have I heard a thought process that sounds so much like mine, this is such a gem and has genuinely helped me so much in my own creative journey u don’t even know!!

First time seeing this channel, but I clicked on the video immediately upon seeing the thumbnail and thinking "Is that Sock?" Only to confirm that it is. I haven't read that story in like...10 years, but its heart warming to see the artist still going at it!

I really recommend Yana's artbook Prism! It's seriously the most beautiful artbook I own and it's so inspirational and well put together <3

It’s actually really cool to find someone else that thinks like I do with starting with a scene in their mind. I always felt weird saying it because I thought it’s not how anyone else does it, but my idea in creating my story has essentially been: Envision a specific high-impact scene -> note that scene -> write a plot to build to that scene that I envisioned.
It makes it kinda exciting for me to build out the plot from that scene and gives me somewhere to develop a character towards.

The way you brainstorm ideas sounds very similar to my own creative process so this was a very helpful video for me. I worried about my story not having a strong enough conflict but the part about internal conflicts counting was reassuring! Lovely art as per usual.

10:43 Yeees I have those too. Ideas that just stick and always resurface but I never write them down.

His long hair makes him look like Larry from Sally Face. LOL it’s actually a good look for him.

What you shared about your characters and worlds feels so similar to what I faced/am facing, it's nice to know someone else had the same process :]

The more you speak about your writing process the more I have faith in my own. I also prefer character driven stories, internal character driven conflict, starting with characters first and discovering their emotions and behaviors as plot points, as well as studying human behaviors and emotions to make stories and characters feel more realistic even in fantasy settings.

For so long I thought this was wrong because my conflicts were minor slice of life ones, nothing drastic no bad guy to beat up, just characters fighting themself, and sometimes themself vs others expectations on them, or opinions.

And It can be a hard thing to write because so many people see stories like this as less interesting if not done well, simply bc the conflict isn’t clear it’s more nuanced and if not drawn home i always worry that my stories can read as having no conflict or boring mundane conflict at best.

But this gives me hope that I’m not wrong and instead on to something with my writing process, as it’s pretty much the same as yours.

a lot of your general processes and experiences with art sounded so relatable to my own 🙈 so glad to know im not the only one who felt defiant against rules and such lol

I like to dream up thease complicated and very emotional backstories for my characters, and still manage to legitimately make myself cry in my sleep...and I don't like it

I IDENTIFY WITH YOU SO MUCH. I’m studying engineering and i never though about studying writing but i had the same process of creating characters during my adolescence to reflect my state of mind and I decided to write a story about him and everything you are saying resonates So. Much, thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It's good to get more recent discussion and advice rather than hearing tips from times passed. 💥💥👍

I absolutely love all of your characters, so even the smallest shred of content about them (even just seeing you draw them) makes me very happy :D I loved the video, the panel with Sock and HaeJin was my favorite
