Riding a bicycle can be a fantastic form of exercise, but it doesn't come without its very serious risks. Alongside common-sense safety measures like wearing a helmet, it's become vitally important over the last few years to ensure that if you're biking with headphones on, you've got the volume on low and are using transparency mode with Airpods or similar devices so you can hear the world around you. #shorts

I could never bike while listening to music full volume. Anxiety inducing

I remember falling like that when I was a kid and walked away fine, but now, sleeping in the wrong position can ruin my whole week.

The fall wasn’t what got me… it was the guy RUNNING HIM OVER

He asks "are you alright" even though he crashed as a result of the other guy falling. What a guy

another tip when it comes to bike safety, when you fall, tuck and roll, don't try to catch your self using your arms.
tuck your chin to your chest and use your arms to shield your head/face, this will reduce the risk of breaking your arm/wrist and protect your face / head.
trust me on this one, i am Dutch

Also get your brakes adjusted so that they actually work lol. The brakes shouldn't normally squeak, but being able to hear does help avoid crashes and the like though. Great advice other than that.

I physically felt something in my chest when he ran that guy over. That looked like it hurt a LOT.

I truely recommend to train a hard safety brake on a bike:
Press both brakes together while getting up and lean back! Push your butt to the rear for making sure you wont flip over the bike.
You will make really good effort and if your train a bit you can nearly press both brakes by full force without flipping over your bike. Also touch both brakes as soon as something is getting closer to you or tries to overtake you for beeing prepared for a hard brake.
I used to work as a bicycle delivery driver in berlin and this technique really helped me to prevent from crashes.
Have a good ride people and stay safe!

And now more helpful advice to cyclists. Never try and cross a gap in the road like that, Ideally, you want to be as close to 90° to it as possible. Going in that shallow you have a major risk of your tyre getting caught in it like in this video. Tram lines are another example of this sort of hazard.

As a regular biker that's no stranger to falling, I felt that impact. I was in a column of two riding once and someone didn't call out debris for everyone behind them and just swerved to avoid it. ALL the riders behind him weren't so lucky and eight people crashed just like that...

As someone who rides reasonable regularly, this is a great tip. I've ridden with headphones once and never again. While I didn't have an accident, it did make me feel a little detached because I couldn't hear what was going on around me. It's not until you experience that detachment that you realise how dependent you are on those audible clues to get a sense of what's going on around you.

Why is no one pointing out how they’re biking on a highway which literally all have signs on the ramps that say non motorized vehicles are prohibited?

The driver from this point of view looked like he was about to try to go around the left side of the fallen biker.

Instead he decided not to take the chance, perhaps to avoid a possible head injury to the fallen biker

You forgot to mention
He hit a “seam”
A seam is a line that is going the same way u are
Except a little bit different. It grabs your front wheel and changes the direction a hair and u
Lose your balance and go down. They are extremely dangerous. If he would’ve bunny hopped over it, he would’ve been fine.
I have never crashed on a seam I have come close a 1000 times.

Those gaps/ruts in the road can be deadly for a two wheeled vehicle, especially a bicycle with narrow tires. Don't try to cross them in the first place, but if you have to, do it with speed and do it at a sharp angle. He came in at a very shallow angle relative to the rut in the road which caused his front tire to complete fall into it.

I don't ride a bicycle anymore, but back when I did, I never would have worn head phones while operating it. Paying attention to noise around me, kept me safer. I couldn't imagine someone wanting to ride with their hearing impaired, when given the choice

Also make sure that when you’re biking (especially on a road bike or any bike with thin tires) that you take all potential scars/lines (like railroad tracks, roots, what this dude fell on, etc.) in the ground at an angle perpendicular to said line.

paints and cracks, both things you don't wanna just casually coast over. I learned that the hard way when I had a close call getting my bike wheel stuck on a crack between train tracks that ran through the road
