Just Head Up Steam Deck OLED Also Has Wifi 6E.
The Reason for Running the Ally At 15Watts Was to Demonstrate that at that Same TDP on both of these Handhelds the X Can Achieve Better Performance and Get Better Battery life with the new 80Wh Battery Upgrade.
The Ally In performance mode at 17 Watts still comes out on top in Battery Life and of Course Performance is also Increased.
Even at a 20Watt TDP the Ally can Offer amazing battery life when compared.
I’ll will have a few more videos coming up running the ALLY X at its full Potential soon.

I'm a steam deck OLED owner, but setting them both to 15w isn't "fair". That's like doing a car drag race between a Mini and Ferrari but limiting the Ferrari to 120bhp to be "fair".

Steam is a huge deal, and deserves my hard earned money, valve pushes Linux so wonderfully they deserve all the support. For me it’s not steam deck vs rog it’s more like steam os vs the disgusting windows

For me it's the steam deck, it's the support by steam for many years to come and games will be optimized for the device as well

To the comments saying limiting TDP to 15W on the Ally X is unfair: drag racing both systems is pointless because we already know how much more powerful the Ally X is on paper, not to mention a 60% larger battery. Even if its power does not translate 100% into real world tests, it will still have an advantage. Going full throttle on both systems will only tell us what we already know: the Ally X beats Steam Deck pound for pound in terms of raw power. By setting both to 15W, we can have an apples to apples comparison between the two systems in terms of efficiency and power draw.

I had the choice between the ally or the steam deck OLED a few months ago and I did choose the ally. Best device for me personally. The battery was never an issue for me and I love windows on my handheld. Installing games from GOG is so easy and I use Big Box as my launcher. It's good to have options.

It still comes down purely to use case. Unless the portable handheld is your MAIN gaming device where you play AAA games, you really don't NEED more power than a Steam Deck OLED, especially if you, like myself have a massive catalog of awesome older and retro games on steam, as well as emulation to catch up on. The SD Oled plays everything up until about 2018-2019 without much issue, which is perfect for what I use it for! It's also made me deeply appreciate retro and indie games in a different way, as 2D graphics, early 3D and pixel art just look amazing on the smaller hand held form factor. In my case I have a PS5 & a high end PC at home for when I want to play a modern AAA, so it makes no sense to spend 1000$ (Canadian) plus on a handheld device, that STILL will barely run the newest and greatest games. IMO if you're looking for PS5/Series X plus level power out of a handheld that will actually playably run the most demanding games in existence, we're still a few iterations away from that. Also, the lack of track pads is a BIG issue for me, the SD's track pads are shockingly good for playing oldschool PC shooters, RTS games, etc.. as well as navigating linux in desktop mode! I think there's still a ton of advantages to the SD even with the Ally X's massive battery life improvement. With that said, it definitely seems to be the best Windows handheld on the market!

Thank you for the review. Personally I would love to see a comparison between both with 720p and max TDP (15 vs 25/30) just to see how much better the X performs.

Steam Deck OLED VRR? Where did you take that from?

The important thing about the ROG Ally X's screen is the variable refresh rate. Especially if you're not hitting the caked 30/60fps in games, the screen tearing will be quite distracting.

My take on this is... The Steam Deck APU is designed to be played at 3-10W (you don't get a lot of extra performance at those last 5W), and the Ally is designed to be played at 15-25W (and you get much worse performance when dipping below 15W). So, If you are going to run a a big pile of backlog games (older 3D games), emulation, indies etc. Then the Steam Deck OLED makes A LOT more sense, as it has better performance under 10W compared to the Ally... However, if you are going to run AAA games at 15-30W, perhaps have the device hooked up to a display or an external GPU, then The Ally is what makes the most sense. If you are somewhere inbetween I think you can make both devices work for your intended purpose... They are both good.

I still have the og Steam Deck and have no plans to upgrade. If I want max specs, I'll build a PC.

Asus is absolutely killing it right now! They pretty much made all the changes people wanted on the ally and now it’s an absolute powerhouse.

They are both amazing. I have a rog, but used to have original steam deck. My heart with steam deck.

I have the Steam Deck Oled, but the Ally X is looking really good.

For me, the whole point of the Ally X is that you can bump up the TDP to 25W, still get decent battery life, and enjoy your games in 1080p.
