I used the strongest over the counter retinol for 2 years then jumped right to .05 tretinoin 3-4x a week. No issues at all. I guess I’m lucky.

I'm currently doing this. I just couldn't tolerate tretinoin at .02. Not even 3x per week. I have acne. So my acne was not getting any better. So I decided to start with retinol at .3, .5, then currently retinaldehyde .05, then going to alternate with retinaldehyde .1. Then going to start introducing tretinoin again. My acne is improving a little. Just have to accept what your skin can tolerate and start from there.

This is exactly what I did. I used OTC retinol products for several years. Then I moved to a retinal product that was much stronger for 6 months. Now I am on the lowest strength Tretinoin every 3 nights, and have had ZERO issues. NONE! I've already started to use it every other night!! That stuff is magic!

I started on 0.025% tret without using retinol about a month and a half ago. I was too impatient to build up tolerance to it over a year or more. Been using tret 3-4 times a week, now moving to 5 days a week. I've thankfully not had any issues so far but not really seen any changes in my skin either. I rarely get acne but mostly using it for ageing so I guess I need to give it a lot more time.

Would using adapalene/differin be a good stepping stone to build up from retinol to tretinoin for anti-aging? I’m currently using retinol but want to build tolerance

Excellent advice. Curious to know if there is a full length video on how to properly use tretinoin or RetinA on this channel? Especially a video that the info begins with the very first time you are going to use this product, how to use skincare in conjunction with a retinoid, hopefully along with some hacks, tips and tricks too. Yes, I realize that this video was posted a very long time ago but I’m new to this channel and prescription retinoids.
Thank you in advance ❤

Its my day 4 of using tretinoin 0.05% i have no irritation, burns nor itching. I dont know if its good or bad. 😅

EDIT: Update - its been 8 months of using tret my face was starting to change and glow but all of a sudden out of nowhere I started getting irritated, I have burns and its itchy plus purging 😫🤦🏾‍♀️ what might be wrong? It's like I'm back to where I started.

I used Differin for awhile, but it was giving me contact dermatitis on my chest/neck from spreading down while sleeping. Then I was switched to Duac gel- no problems, but expensive because it expires so fast. Then I was put on Ziana, but that I couldn't use everyday- every other day at the most, even with heavy moisturizer. Fast forward to Covid, and having to wear an N95 for months at work gave me so much acne issues. Still couldn't use Ziana every day, and only using it every other wasn't cutting it. So, I kept adding things to my routine until it worked, and I got to the point where I had a triple cleanse routine when I got off work, plus a retinoid, eye cream, and heavier moisturizer during my "day" (I work nights). FYI- I have combination skin with a very oily T zone, and the mask acne was causing breakouts on chin, nose, and cheeks.
in the shower- 1- wash face, ears, and neck with Sebamed pH balanced cleansing bar while doing first shampoo. rinse. 2- salicylic face wash or scrub while doing second shampoo and washing body. rinse. 3- Cerave foaming cleanser with benzoyl peroxide while letting conditioner sit. rinse.
Then it was Cereve under-eye cream and resurfacing retinol serum before bed.
Then when I got up, wash face with Basis facial bar and apply Cerave ultra lightweight PM moisturizing cream (still heavier than the neutrogena combination skin lotion I used before) and head to work.

My dermatologist gave me 0.05% twice a week as a start. I do not have pimples. I used a skincare that has 0.025% of retinol for 12 years. Do you think she gave me the right dosage doctor? Thank you!

How fast should I increase the percentage of retinol if I'm comfortable with the lower dose?

I disagree. I have very sensitive skin and I have been on the lowest 0.25% of tretinoin with no issues! I have never used retinol before. I love it and look forward to bumping up in strength in the future!

This is what I’m doing now. I have sensitive skin and started with the Naturium 0.05% just a few days a week. I’ve worked my way up to the 0.10% everyday now, but I still can’t use it on my neck.
