Onyx hubs review

Quick review of an amazing one-of-a-kind bicycle hub using the sprag system, 0 drag and instant engagement, possibly the fastest hubs on the planet, and only a little weight penalty.

I got my ONYX Vesper CL hubs and built the wheels yesterday. I matched them up with some BOYD 36 Carbon hoops and Sapin CX-Ray double butted spokes. My set weighs 1653g. I went out for the first ride today and get exactly what I was going for, all my expectations were met. Thank you ONYX. The silence is golden.

Gotta love the silence. I'd be interested in someone comparing the sprag clutch in these Onyx hubs to the roller clutch in True Precision Stealth hubs for drag when freewheeling. Maybe a spindown test of the two designs laced to the same weight rims.

I noticed you didn't comment on them, and honestly, I think the slots in the front hub aren't a good idea. They might save a couple grams and look neat on a BMX bike, but they hurt performance aerodynamically while letting road dirt into the axle and bearings.

How do these hubs feel to ride? I have heard some people describe their engagement feel as "rubbery" and not as direct as a traditional hub system. What is your experience? I love the idea of a quiet ride, but I need a good instant lockup feeling for sprints or attacks on climbs.

If they spent over a million dollars on developing it, I don't know why they couldn't spend a few extra dollars on a web site and making them more available. Did they go bankrupt or something?

Anybody know if they're doing Boost sizes yet? 12x148 XD would be cool, I've never really liked how all the premium hubs made it sound like you had a swarm of bees on your tail.
