Important note, in some cases, you might have to reinstall your JDK that worked (version 16+) after an automatic java update. One of those automatic updates messed it up for me, but a JDK reinstall fixed it.

Had to deinstall all java versions including 18 and leave only 17.0.1 for it to finally work, thanks.

thank you so much troublechute u helped me fix my java problem i had multiple java 8 updates and a java 8 jdk and a java 17 and 20 jdk in there too i got rid of those and did java 16 and it opened my mc your awesome for this man!!!! keep it up!

I don't know if you said this but when I download the forge file my computer tries to open it with adobe acrobat so I tried opening it with java put when I go in there it doesn't let me select it until i get to a .exe file which theres to many

Hot Tip: If you're on Windows, Linux, or Mac and attempting to follow these troubleshooting steps you need to make sure after an install OR uninstall of a java version, that you close Bash/Terminal and then reopen it and try again. The reason for this is because uninstalling/installing effectively changes your $PATH variable, but Bash/Terminal keeps that stuff locally until you restart it.

So I’m tryna start my server on a batch file! and Cmd says that I’m on a higher version it says I’m on 61.0 and I need 52.0 and I download the x64 installer and it did nothing. I’m not sure if I’m meant to delete all the others in apps and features whilst searching Java
