Well, you will need to get Java in order to install Minecraft mods on Windows as well as host your own Minecraft server. This means that it is important to update Java for Minecraft as soon as possible, so let’s jump right on into it!

First things first, you will need to confirm you don’t have any versions of Java installed currently. It is possible that you have Java 17 or an older version of Java installed, and currently Minecraft needs Java 21. To do this, open up the start menu and search “Apps & Features”. Open this and in Apps & Features search for “java”. You will now see any version of Java you have installed. Click on these and uninstall any Java versions you have.

Next, we can move on to how to download Java. In the description above, you will find a link to download Java in the description above. That will take you to our complete text guide on how to download Java for Windows. On this page, click the “Download Java 21” button to go to the official Java download page.

On this page, click on Java 21 and select “Windows”. Finally, next to “x64 installer click the link under the “Download” section. The Java 21 installer will begin downloading.

Now, we need to go over how to install Java on Windows for Minecraft. This is actually really easy. Just double-click on the file you downloaded, and it will open up the Java 21 installer. From here, it is just like installing an other program. Click next a few times until the installation starts and then click to finish the installation.
