Day 9 - Balance | BREATH - A 30 Day Yoga Journey

We ease in to practice today with a breath technique that can help balance out the brain and body. Alternate Nostril Breathing, also called Nadhi Shodana, is an incredible tool for activating the parasympathetic nervous system which can restore balance - particularly if you are consciously, or subconsciously, living more in fight or flight mode - which is common in such uncertain times.

We will introduce the powerful play of opposites in yoga asana as well, considering the ways in which we may join steadiness, or STHIRA, with ease, or SUKHA.

I will guide postures today that are there not to discourage you, but to help you play with the concept of how to create a dance for both steadiness and ease, and one that is individual for you.

I invite you to use this material to check in, learn, and grow.

Remember, it’s not about being able to stand on one foot.

Learn the process of centering yourself, and remember, it’s a process.

If you fall, I will catch you.

The energetic body can often go unnoticed. We don’t even realize we are quite off balance until things are so bad they begin to show up in a more harsh or glaring way.
Practices such as yoga and breath techniques, like Nadhi Shodhana, offer us a way to better keep in alignment.

I haven’t been doing this everyday and it makes me feel a bit disappointed in myself, but then I remember that I’m coming back and I’m working on myself slowly but surely to better my mental health, and that it’s totally okay to have some off days. If anybody else is having some trouble with this I’m here to talk :)) and know that ur not alone and I’m proud of you, super duper proud and happy that you have also decided to work to better your health.

I cannot believe that it’s day 9 already and I’ve been so consistent, coming to the mat yesterday was indeed challenging but I managed so taking it one day at a time. To everyone whose doing this, just take it one day at a time and as Adriene says, she’s got our back, so once we arrive on the mat, we’ve already accomplished a great deal, so kudos to everyone who’s on this wonderful journey ❤️

When I discovered Yoga With Adriene, one of the sentences that hooked me into coming back to practice was "if you fall, we will catch you." No other fitness community has that kind of mantra. "Failure" is seen as part of the journey and is welcomed with love and support.

Today felt so frustrating and overwhelming, but I finally felt some peace when I was outside feeding our farm animals. Instead of coming inside to my mat, I pulled out my phone and did today's practice right there under the sky. My hands and feet were REALLY grounded today 😊. As she started talking about sun and moon, I looked forward into the beautiful fading sunset and finally felt like I could TRULY breathe for the first time today.

Me, year one: Oh crap, not a balancing pose! Me, year four: Yay, here comes warrior three! Balancing poses used to be so intimidating and difficult but now I feel like I'm flying. So empowering! Thanks, Adriene, and love to all wherever you are in your journey. If this was difficult, just keep going! It will get better. ❤️

I showed up today and I did my best. I whispered "it's okay" and took a deep breath when I was having difficulties with some of the balancing poses. I was in my flow for today's practice that I didn't notice the time already. Thank you once again, Adriene! I aspire to be like Benji, so peaceful as he sleeps. Namaste, everyone! Here's to showing up and to our journey to week 2! 💚

I've been really struggling with my mental health recently and I've turned back to yoga in hopes that it could help me move forward in my recovery. Today was day 1 and I feel really proud of myself. I believe in every other person going through what I've been going through because I know you are strong and resiliant. I am proud of you.

I was fighting anxiety during this practice and just as adriene ended the practice I felt my eyes well with tears and just let it out for a minute! It felt so good and I'm feeling much better now. Thank you Adriene!

I read this today and it made me laugh—Sometimes in yoga I feel like a graceful swan. 🦢Other times I feel like a baby giraffe learning how to use its legs.🦒😂

I am 20 years old and was suffering from PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and late periods ( almost three months late) unbalanced hormones, cysts forming around my ovaries and there is no real cure to this problem only medications but because of that I was suffering from acne. So 6 months ago I decided to stop my medications and start doing yoga, not cardio or anything else which I have been doing till now but yoga, and I found your channel and started doing your 30 days programs. And all of sudden I got my periods within a 30 days. And it has been like this since then. And I'm thankful to you Adriene. I love doing it and I do it only five times a week and still I got solution to my pcos and tbh and I am also loosing inches and I am not dieting at all..it's all so good ...thank you Adriene ❤
