Well, when Apple hired people from the Boeing QA department, this was the result! 😂😂😂

I can confirm that it doesn’t happen with the 11” one

I just tried in my local Apple Store and it‘s actually not that bad, if you use it as a touch screen and not as a punching bag. And on the 11 inch version the issue is even smaller and really neglectable for everyone.

The overall built of the new Magic Keyboards has significantly improved compared to the previous versions though (which weren‘t bad at all) at they now feel absolutely on par with the keyboard of a regular Macbook to me.

So, contrary to this short video, the new Magic Keyboards are actually the biggest improvements of them all, I would say.

Quite a few people are rushing in to say there’s no issue at all and you have to poke hard or punch the iPad like a punching bag to get this to happen. Meanwhile, the video shows it repeatedly rocking with relatively light pressure. Which is true??? Well, I’m sitting here typing this on my new M4 iPad Pro 13 with the Magic Keyboard. I can honestly say both are amazing, but… the issue is real.

It’s true that you can avoid the rocking by using light, gentle pressure, or keeping one hand on the Magic Keyboard or behind the iPad or by keeping it a more upright position (closer to 90 degrees). But putting it in the most comfortable viewing angle for me and applying just a little too much pressure without using your other hand to stabilize and IT WILL ROCK backwards causing the front of the keyboard to lift a bit. With strong hands, a multi-touch gesture in particular could easily generate sufficient force.

BTW, the Magic Keyboard for iPad 13 inch is $349, not $300 so it stings even a bit more to have to be careful to avoid this flaw. They could have made the hinge flush. I’m still within the return period, so considering my options from little rubber feet to returning.

I have a 13" and haven't noticed, but I freely admit, I do have a light touch, as I know I don't need to poke it hard to get it to work.

Calling it a fatal flaw is a bit much, but it’s definitely a pretty inexcusably overlooked flaw

If Steve Jobs would have tried this out before production, he would’ve thrown it out a window and say “this is shit, start over”.

He was an ass but he knew what a good product was.

It’s actually annoying to have the hinge uncovered too

Totally agree. Hate the new Keyboard. Also it sits lower and the viewing angle is way further away, and the metal hinge scratches everything. Last years was perfect. Need to return it and find a good third party alternative now.

100% agreed this is a tough design flaw.

My 11" Pro with the new Magic keyboard works perfect with min rocking just like the older magic keyboard. The only difference is that this new keyboard is much better in every way. The hinge gap is correct as you say but honestly no issue with its use

now try sitting it on your lap and see if it still tips over without any touching

just get a wireless keyboard and a mice. for a lot cheaper price and keep a overall lighter profile

You need the solution? Apple will sell it for additional $500 later. Take it or leave it, typical Apple core competencies.

The 13" air is probably the worst that I've seen in person. It doesn't hold the iPad well. This is a problem when people use these in their laps.

Thank you! I am wondering if the new aluminium keyboard would scratch the display?

Tell me you got paid by Samsung without telling me you got paid by them. I have the 13 inch with the keyboard. I have two actually both don’t do this. I also don’t aggressively touch my iPad. Just the normal pressure

literally returned mine day 2 for the 11”

I don't see a problem. They created an issue that they can say is better in the next release of the 300 Dollar keyboard. How can people still don't understand Apple. :D

“The line between them is blurring”

No it’s not. One is a computer than you can have full access to and run whatever you want. The other is a toy hobbled by its OS for any greatness it could have because running software outside the App Store must be a “security risk”
