Jokes on you I’m in the gym 6 days a week to not feel empty inside

If you're doing a PPL split, it's better to lower the amount of volume per workout in order to avoid burnout.

This is why I do 3 on 1 off instead of 6 on 1 off without being married to a specific day on the calendar and it works really well tbh. Though I’m about to switch to a PPL/UL hybrid 5 days a week to have more overall frequency.

This is so true. I have been experiencing this recently, for me 6 days/week is just not possible mentally. For me it's best if i get 1/2 rest day after 3 consecutive days. Also I have seen better quality and intense workouts when I lowered the volume... it's much easier to concentrate on each exercise and get the most out of it.

The thing that made going to the gym 6x a week fun for me was having workouts A & B. That way you aren’t doing the same exact routine 2x a week. It also helps to have a home gym since it’ll save you lots of commute time. Also making sure diet, and sleep are on point and keeping stress levels low as possible. (PPL-off-PPL-off also works great too)

I just love working out all the way around. From the music pumping you up, the pump, the way you look in the mirror. I’m always in the gym 6-7 days a week, even if you only need 3 days to see optimal results. This is my therapy that I need.

I feel this is true as you become more of an intermediate and start lifting actual heavy weights. But for novice lifters who still need to develop a strength base and need minimal volume, I feel it can be practical for those who do not want to spend much time in the gym each training session. That's the primary reason as to why I put my friend on a PPL program.

I agree. As a novice I’m currently on PPL, but with a 2-day rest between next 3 workouts - 5 days rest for compound movments. Even with the right training parameters, pretty clean diet and good sleep I regenerate just right to progress in long term.

Very true. I was doing this exact thing and ended up tearing a muscle in my lower back warming up with 135 simply due to over training. You don’t think it’ll happen to you until it does

I did a PPL split for several months when 1st getting serious about training, but I was only doing 3 days a week. Each session was long and intense, but I had lots of recovery time. My big compound lifts improved immensely. I've recently started an UL split where I'm going 4 days a week now that I'm getting more advanced and my body is more accustomed to recovery.

New split seems to be working
Day 1 torso (chest back and shoulders)
Day 2 limbs (legs and arms)
Day 3 rest
Day 4 chest and back
Day 5 legs shoulders
Day 6 arms
Day 7 rest
Seems to be working out all right 😊

I'm doing Upper/Lower split without Lower part so I can study more and I end up not studying anyway...

Excellent point, some people split the first part of the week to strength and the other to hypertrophy but that still sounds like a lot of volume for some of us. I don't think its necessary to chase the pump and do high volume on the second part of the week when your weekly volume is already over the roof.

Do update us on alternative programs for novice lifters or lets say new barbell enthusiasts who wants to take lifting seriously.

I have been training for 3 years now, currently 19. If you train hard, and eat right, and always strive to be stronger and training harder every session, you WILL see results. Make sure you’re eating enough. I have been following a push pull legs, and it will work great.

This is a fact I’ve been stagnant for a year doin too much. I’ve dialed the sets and reps back on everything I feel better and am getting a lot stronger.

Exactly, I tried and got results but within 2 months my muscles weren't recovering so I reduced the frequency and went back to my favourite bro split.

I've tried PPL multiple times over the years and could never stay consistent with it. I felt burnt out every workout and felt like I could never take rest days. I always come back to a Chest Tris/Back Bi/Legs/Shoulders and Arms. I get the best results and stay committed the longest. I vant say PPL is overrated but just not my thing

Personally I do PPL, alternating reps (15-20) and strength (2-5 sometimes 6). Allows enough recovery for each muscle type plus sleep

This is why I do a powerbuilding split which consists of:
Monday: Upper Body (Heavy Chest day)
Tuesday: Lower Body (Heavy squat day)
Wednesday: Rest up champ
Thursday: Push (Hypertrophy chest)
Friday: Pull (Bicep Shoulder Forearm)
Saturday: Legs (Light legs hack squat or smith machine squats and leg press)
Sunday: Rest up champ and repeat
