I've always had a lot of admiration for truck drivers. I've done a lot of riding and driving along the highways, byways and back roads of Appalachia. Even in a Montana and Civic some of them were pretty terrifying; especially when it got icy.

The most memorable, by far though was this byway near Cherokee, NC. It was an incline of a really absurd angle, and it went up the mountain for a while like that, then leveled off for a couple car lengths before suddenly turning nearly 270° and continuing up the mountain.
The combination of the steep angle and dense forest made it impossible to see the turn coming up until reaching that few feet of level ground; however, the first thing I saw from that spot, was this absolutely stunning view; through a gap in the trees, a waterfall appeared and made a short hop down to a rocky ledge where it split into three smaller waterfalls and dropped out of view. The second thing I saw was a pull off, barely big enough for a single vehicle to stop and take pictures from, then I saw there was a ravine separating my side of the mountain from the waterfall's side. The gap was probably only 20-25ft, but it was more than deep enough to smash any vehicle that went over the edge to bits, and splatter its occupants. Only after taking all that in, did I see the turn away from certain death. There was no guardrail, but all along the edge of the pull off were little white crosses and bundles of flowers.

I remember that scene so vividly, because my ex-wife was actually the one driving that time, and she was insistent on trying to go the marked 40 mph speed limit. I kept telling her we were going too fast, and she kept countering that we weren't even going the speed limit.
Then we reached that spot, and I said something like "look at the wa... [string of profanities]" as she slammed the brakes and turned just in time to not imitate the waterfall facing us.
The world went into slow motion about to crash mode, and I nearly pissed myself, which she thought was hilarious, and laughed maniacally the rest of the way up the mountain. That did not help my nerves one bit. I don't know how she was even able to see or breath while laughing the way she was.

I don't remember any more turns that extreme, but I may have just blocked the rest of that road out of my memory, like some alien abduction experience. It was pretty intense.

I don't have a fear of heights, Doc. I have a fear of the sudden stop at the end of the fall from heights. 🤣

I went to a college that taught Wind Turbine maintenance. We heard a story once of a worker whose safety harness got caught on the generator he was working on. It pulled him into the machine and crushed him to death

Construction of skyscrapers are most dangerous because objects and people fall off by accident or caused by negligence. Thank goodness macro (referring to large person) wasn’t knocking something that tall over

Oh these men and women...
I worked as an electrician for 15 years. Built lines and substations in many countries. But I have never seen a single woman on a high-voltage power line. 😆

Interesting way to bring the medical topic closer to people... a recommendation, it is anime, but it is about medical topics, you could take a look, I don't think you will regret it, it is an already finished series called Hataraku Saibou, which has a spin off called Hataraku Saibou Black, more raw so to speak
