Far Cry is a franchise of first-person shooter games, all of which have been published by Ubisoft. The first game, Far Cry, was developed by Crytek for Microsoft Windows. The following games in the series have used a Ubisoft-modified version of the CryEngine, the Dunia Engine, allowing for open world gameplay. The Far Cry games, due to the history of their development, do not have any significant shared narrative elements but instead share a theme of placing the player in a wilderness environment where they must help fight against one or more despots that control the region as well as surviving against wild animals that roam the open spaces. Today Doctor Wagner, from Experts React on Gamology will be watching and reacting to Far Cry healing animations in games and the best healing mechanics in video games. Do you play Far Cry? This has to be one of my favorite reactions. It’s so funny to see a doctor grossed out over these games, but it’s interesting to learn about the details of these kinds of injuries.

Far Cry is an amazing game series! Everything is over the top including the comically painful improvised healing. Should definitely check out some of the other medical absurdities in these games.

I love how he gives us ways to treat these injuries and these type of situations like we’re gonna be doing these things

6:50 I dislocated my finger in real life in a very similar way, was my ring finger not my middle one. I love Farcry and that animation is what gave me the idea to just pop it back into place, worked like a charm. Of course I still went to the hospital and got a splint for it after, swollen and bruised pretty badly

0:22 there is a reason he pulled it out. The gameplay that was shown was for Far Cry Primal. A game which takes place in 10, 000 BC.

stab wounds, bullets lodged in the body are very painful when you just see the way they heal. but what brought me to tears the most was when the broken bones and joints shifted even the treatment process also made me very sore.😫😵

Far Cry 2 had a system where your character came down with malaria and had to take meds on a regular basis to stay alive. I think that animation you looked at was from Far Cry 1 where the developers got away with showing your character taking pills. I've put plenty of hours into the latest offerings in the franchise, and aside from making your own syringes from herbs or taking copious amounts of hallucinogens in Far Cry 4 or being forced to partake in "Bliss" in Far Cry 5 (Best of the franchise in my opinion), there hasn't been any animations of the player popping pills like that since Far Cry 2. I think the legal department started getting nervous and told them to cut it out.

Ive always been curious. I know your golden rule is "Never remove impaled objects" no argument there, but could you do a video of what happens in the ER/OR for how that object does get properly removed?

This comment is late, but whatever. Hey Doc, I love the Gamology episodes you do with the Martial Arts folks and Spec Ops like Cameron. It’s interesting to see a guy who fixes injuries, giving commentary and input alongside someone who creates injuries. Great vid once again.👍😎

The animation that plays when you heal actually depends on what you took damage from. Hit by shrapnel from an explosion -> pull out the shrapnel. Hit by a bullet -> pull out the bullet or apply a dressing. Hurt by poison -> take pills or drink water. And so on. I noticed this in Far Cry 6, I'm not sure if it's similar in the others.

Obviously the professional commentary is great, but can I also point out how fucking hilarious the editing on this video is?

I've learned that bullets can ricochet off your bones causing damage to more than one place. I read about a man who sustained a bullet to the kneecap and in the blink of an eye, it ended up in the palm of his left hand. There was also the cause of the only prisoner to die escaping Castle Colditz in which a Wehrmacht soldier shot Michael Sinclair's elbow, but this unlucky angle and position caused the bullet to deflect right into his heart.

I swear every time I play farcry I can feel the pain on the healing animations

Interesting to note is as your body heals if you have a small foreign body, your body will actually slowly push it out. There was a story of an elderly ww2 veteran who had shrapnel lodged in his jaw that caused him severe pain for decades before coming out in his mouth while he was eating breakfast.

Even more amazing is a story of a guy who had a clamp left inside him and his body created a sack out of tissue inside his abdomen to contain the foreign body.

Human biology is absolutely amazing. If I might go on a tangent about toxicology. Your bodies adaptive immune system, given enough time and supportive care can create antibodies to cure literally anything that doesn’t destroy it.
