Atomos Ninja V Problem With HDMI Recording Picture Corruption Of The Video Codec
Показать описание
In this video I'm showing yet another problem with the Atomos Ninja V.
This one is showing clear corruption of the recorded HDMI video signal and the video codec.
The file was not only corrupted on playback on the Ninja V, as shown in the video but it was also showing corruption within the QuickTime player on my MacBook Pro. It was also showing corruption when played in DaVinci Resolve. The corruption was different in all three different playback scenarios, with the Ninja V playback being the worse.
I could not show this problem with a proper edit because although Resolve would play the file it would not render it at export due to the file having corruption.
The corruption in this instance was of the Pro Res HQ codec. There were no dropped frames which would have been indicated by the kangaroo icon on the Ninja V and the Ninja V did not complain about any dropped frames.
This Ninja V was a replacement for my previous one. My previous one had an issue with distortion on the microphone input. This replacement was sent to hopefully show that I simply had a defective unit with the previous Ninja V. However, this replacement also has the exact same audio distortion problem with the microphone input.
I now have clear example of two Ninja Vs showing the same audio distortion, I will make a video soon showing the issue on both.
This Ninja V was updated to the latest firmware software, 10.80.0 I also used the exact same SSD and HDMI cables that were used on the previous Ninja V which didn't have any picture or video problems. I also used the same source, the HDMI output from my iPad Pro M1, that I had used with the previous Ninja V, again, the previous Ninja V didn't have issues with this.
I made about eight recordings and they all had video/codec corruption. There was also another problem where this Ninja V didn't give me the option to record, although it was registering the media. The takes that I did manage to record took some time as most of my attempts to record didn't happen because the Ninja V wouldn't record.
I also had another Ninja V about nine months back, which I sent back because contrary to Atomos' claims, at the time the Ninja V was not capable of recording HDR from certain game consoles, such as the Xbox Series X and the Sony PS5.
I will follow this video with some info about the absolutely horrendous time that I've had trying to get support from Atomos. They have basically ignored five emails this time around and didn't answer my questions with my previous Ninja V nine months ago.
Anyway. Take from this video what you will but at the very least I can prove that all Ninja Vs have a microphone input problem and as far as I'm concerned, three out of three defective Ninja V units clearly shows manufacturing issues and Atomos' customer support and technical support is absolutely terrible.
