Is your Atomos screen color TOO WARM? Fixing color on the Ninja, Shinobi and Shogun.

I recently bought an Atomos Ninja V only to find the screen was too warm, in fact it was orange, the calibration was way out.

Here are the options you have for fixing this problem.

I currently own five Atomos recorders (3 Ninja Vs, one Ninja Blade and one Samurai Blade). None of these are very colour accurate and I just put up with it. I trust my cameras and I know that the recorders are recording what the cameras see. I set the white balance and I use the waveform and false colour to nail the exposure. I agree this can be a bit aggravating; however, because of the kind of work that I do, these recorders are essential for the work I do.

Ridiculous....all you SHOULD need is access to some color controls. IF there are controls to build a LUT there should be controls to adjust the display including the white point. Even if you just want to eyeball it next to a broadcast monitor these basic controls should be accessible. Sad

Strangely, I have the opposite problem. The Ninja V I've been using always makes reds look too pink and oversaturated. It's more like an artificial cherry candy. Other cameras will pick up the same color as a red-orange, or a proper medium red. I can usually balance it out in post, but it's annoying to do that every time. The really strange part is that if I film something with green lighting and then switch back to white, THEN the white will look orange.

For everyone looking for the quickest, dirtiest fix that doesn't cost you, I was able to get satisfactory results by making a custom LUT. In Premiere, adjust the temperature of any clip or adjustment layer by -10. Under Lumetri, you can export a .cube file of these Lumetri settings. Apply your technical LUT to the clip first if you want to use that LUT on the Ninja V.

Sure, it isn't perfect, but it's accurate enough for me to shoot with. If needed you can refer to the camera's monitor to check colors & temperature.

dmn this post is 3 years old and I am facing the same problem today. i was in a shooting session and I stopped recording for a min then started recording again and suddenly the screen is very warm and ruined everything I shot afterword. i have a suspicion that the lut i had saved for log videos has been activated or something but i deleted the file and still its warm

Found this incredible useful... but strange that it was insanely hard for me to find this vid isn't it? Seems odd to me that I can find video after video after video praising the quality of the atomos Ninja v, but a video talking about a problem seems to hide from the youtube algorithms... but what do I know? I'm just a dumb guy who likes cameras, I'm sure youtube doesn't protect products from negative searches...

I purchased the cable and i calibrated the ninja v, and the image still looks a lot warmer than on the camera, do you think it could be a setting issue? gracias!

Thanks mate for the video, you help us so much!! Just to be 100% before to buy the "unicorn & wizard" pack. Thanks to the calibration the screen does not get orange when you connect the HDMI, right? My unit looks great, it is only when I connect the HDMI cable to the camera I can see how the color profile change to the orange. With this ridiculous expensive combo the problem is gone? You connect the cable and you dont have a color profile change? Many thanks for your amazing support!!

Does the "Calibrite ColorChecker Display" (not the "Plus" and not the "Pro") can be used to calibrate the Atomos Ninja V?

Does anybody else find atomos monitors too contrasty in addition to the warmer colors? Shadows look too dark compared to the Gh5S monitor

Since I have both Shogun Inferno and Shinobi monitors, and an iI calibrator, I find myself slowly (and begrudingly) warming up to the crazy price of the cable. Other than adjusting the white point, does it help with other colors and contrast? Have you been able to calibrate TWO Atomos monitors to get them to match?

Hi there. I noticed you left a comment at another video regarding the Ninja V calibration. You mentioned the color shifts when you plugged in the HDMI cable that is connected to the camera but the home page without the HDMI signal looks fine. I am having the same issue here. Just wondering did the calibration you mentioned in your video solved that specific problem?

Even after calibration my monitor is too yellow... My Shinobi has the same problem. Replaced it. Got the exact same problem. Could've been a great product but in the end they are just crappy screens.
