Step ups can be performed in many ways and most notably are done with poor form, alternating legs, poor posture and from an unstable base. At Just In Time Personal Training we teach you to do it first and foremost from a stationery one leg and then teach you to brace your core, activate all musculature to ensure good posture and upright with good balance. From here we increase in complexity. When you are able to do that, then you can progress to alternating legs and in this case add to the physical requirements by including a DB shoulder press.
