Physics / cloth simulation is a must if blender wants to be used more in production. I can tell you its the one thing holding us back from using blender in production. Cloth simulation is so essential nowadays. Even cheap animation projects seen on you tube are implementing cloth sim. Blender cloth simulation is impossible to use. To jump between 3rd party cloth solutions and blender for many shots is not a workable solution. Maya's cloth simulation is light years ahead and yield much better results. No need to use 3rd party. If blender can get up to speed in this area then, i would say nothing can compare to it. Right now we are looking at unreal engine 5.3 to see if it can fulfill our production needs. It has a decent physics engine and real-time cloth simulation just got a big improvement. We are just a little worried about memory usage. We have large scenes with many characters.

My opinion is also that Geometry nodes and real time compositing in the view port is not something that should take up their development time. These are not problems for most companies. The real issues at hand that hold blender back from our experience working in production are:
1. Unusable cloth and physics engine
2. View Port performance issues when animating. Currently our animators are having serious problems when even animating a single character in simple scenes. The animation controls become slow and slouchy . This is with all the optimizations such as simplify, using bounding boxes on the 3d set, etc. Forget large scenes. Even when unloading the scene assets the view port is still slow. It is my number one complaint right now from our artists that are assembling the scenes and animating. Blender really needs to do some work here.

There are other issues as well, but they are not important or nice to haves. The above 2 things mentioned by me, there are no workarounds. I think having a strong foundation for the most basic functionality is more important than having lots of features. That is my 2 cents.

great how Blender is growing I hope surface snapping gets a few more tweaks still having trouble keeping plane objects visibly on the surface of another object.

Wrong focus!!! We need better sculpting, texture paint, , sdf and or nurbs modeling! Who needs grease pencil or gnodes?

What about (1) any discussions about implementing general AI assistants in Bender for time-saving creation of 3D model assets, texturing, rigging, animation, compositing, etc, and (2) improvements for creating VR content or game development/integration tools for game-dev workflows?
