I'd rather die broken than die drifting away ⛵️🌊

My joy cons were cured and now some of them have it again

Stage one: not noticeable during gameplay, slight movement when not moving

Stage two: begins to impede gameplay, need to actively lead your movements to counteract the drift

Stage three: gameplay impossible, if you’re quick you can navigate menus on YouTube and Netflix

Stage four: new controller

The dualshock 2 controllers never suffered from stick drift because they were designed with contactless magnets so theres nothing to wear and tear. Crazy how we used to have perfect tech that could last for years, and now everything is cheap garbage

The worst one is the Meta Quest 2 controllers. Stick drift is common and the price for a new one is 200 dollars.🕊️😭

I had a controller with stick drift (Xbox One Elite Controller), which turned out to be the wiper of the potentiometer rubbing too hard (not too light as wear does) on the resistor strip, causing it to drift up to 50% upward on the Y-axis. Unclipping it slightly and keeping it unclipped slightly during reassembly from the metal shielding that contains the other components of the joystick and spraying electronic contact cleaner into the potentiometer created the perfect balance of pressure and clean contact between the two components and actually made the controller drift about 0-4% (X/Y Axis), while the other stick that wasn't affected by drift yet experienced 3-9% (X/Y axis). Note that most games' dead zones are set to 12% or above.

Stages are assumed, there are different standards when showing the stage of stick drift.

Stage One (Mild)
The controller joysticks rarely goes out of bounds of the dead zone (12%) at neutral.

Stage Two (Moderate)
The controller joysticks goes out of bounds, commonly stays outside of the deadzone (12%) even at neutral and rarely with active input and can be counteracted under certain circumstances.

Stage Three (Severe)
The controller joysticks stays out of bounds of the deadzone (12%) at neutral and commonly with active input and will display some response with the joysticks and may require harsh joystick movements in order to present a correct response.

Stage Four (Failure)
The controller will very rarely or not even at all, will show signs of response to joystick movements and correctly represent them.

I wasn't ready to give up on my controller so I pulled out a screwdriver, a lighter, and LSD so I can come up with an impossible solution.

It worked

There are cures for stick drift. Cleaning can help, taking it apart and cleaning, getting professional or doing something with the software that corrects it snd opposes the stick drift. You main controllwr may be down. But it sure isnt out

My PS4 controllers have been through more than most and they still stand... I've had that PS4 and those controllers for 2/3 of my life, truly one of the consoles of all time
