in today’s video we will be going to 15th century Rome and delving into the affairs of the rich and powerful members of the church and it’s perverse to say the least. In particular I will highlight and tell you the story of the pope’s son Cesare Borgia. First lets have a look at his early life.

Mikkeletto the assassin was my favourite character in The Borgias series. They should have done more episodes it was underrated imo

As a non-Christian, I've always thought that the Catholic church has contained some of the best, and some of the worst, exemplars of Christianity. But with cardinals like Cesare, you can see where the protestant reformation was coming from.

The Showtime series The Borgias was very well made.
Not sure how historically accurate it was, but it definitely set the right ambience and the acting was [chef’s kiss].
So, if you are not familiar with the series and you are interested in The Borgias, definitely consider checking it out.

The fact that they didn’t even want to get his diseased blood on their swords and simply left him naked to die of exposure is thoroughly gangster. Wowzers.

For the sake of full disclosure--I'm not any sort of professional psychologist/psychiatrist. But from the records of Cesare going from spending days in bed, then going full blown maniac, sounds like he had some sort of extreme bi-polar disorder.

He was spoiled from the beginning of his early childhood ...a spoiled child who grew into a spoiled adult ...doesn't matter who his father was he had no moral center; he seems to have been capable of murder or behind it

I love the assassins creed where he was the main villain. It had the best story

Wow! It still amazes me how those in power that claim to be Godly are so corrupt!

Such a fascinating yet disturbing family. Many thanks, Ollie, for the superb upload.

The power his family held made him think that he could get away with anything he wanted, and he was above the law. Since the Holy Church was the most powerful institution in the world and he was connected to it, he used it as a shield for his dirty work. Many people connected to the church always thought that it protected them from prosecution; since it was also said to be the safest place in the world, many people placed their trust in the church, thus those who abused it gave it a bad name.

This video was the icing on the cake I needed to sub. I absolutely loved the Borgias on Showtime. Cesare's role was amazing there.

He was born before his time, today he'd fit right in. Sadly.

This is the time I would chose to go back to if I had one shot at time travel.
First I would go to Switzerland and watch Wilhelm Tell in 1291 defeat the Habsburgs, and the battle at Morgarten in 1315, and then go to Italy to watch the Borgias in 1500. That is my time travel bucket list.

He never wanted to be cardinal so I can understand the detest of it. I don't think he personally killed his brother but he had it arranged to be done. His downfall was the death off his father, if he hadn't died there's no telling what would've happened.

During that time period, I think, the papacy was far more a political entity than a religious institution. They did the same things powerful politicians do today - whatever they wanted to do, because there was very little that could stop them.
