The BRUTAL story of General Grievous' slaughter at the FIRST Battle of Geonosis.
Was General Grievous in Attack of the Clones? Yes! Offscreen
With the horrific Battle of Geonosis marking the start of the Clone Wars, many of us may have wondered, where was General Grievous during the battle? Surprisingly, General Grievous was actually present at the first battle of Geonosis, but was able to keep himself a complete secret from the Republic and the rest of the Galaxy through some very dark and creepy methods. So, I’m going to break down the shocking actions of General Grievous at the first battle of Geonosis, and why almost nobody knew of his existence until later in the war.
As the First Battle of Geonosis was sparked and the intense fighting between the separatists the Republic began for the first time ever, General Grievous, who had recently obtained his cybernetic modifications from Count Dooku, was instructed by Count Dooku to safeguard the Separatist council from any Jedi threat and to absolutely Ravage any Clone Trooper that he came across, ripping them to shreds. At this point, Grievous had already undergone rigorous and gruelling training in Lightsaber combat under the mentorship of Count Dooku, and was appointed to the position of Supreme Commander of the Droid Army in secret.
As the brutal and gruesome Geonosis Arena battle between the Jedi and droid forces began to fire up, General Grievous was let loose into the dark and cold catacombs of Geonosis, where he waited menacingly to stalk and kill any Jedi who dared walk into the cold caves.
Unfortunately for one very unlucky Jedi, he happened to stumble into the eerie catacombs during the battle, causing Grievous to encounter his first Jedi ever in combat. Grievous of course brutally slashed this Jedi to shreds, and faced another large horde of Jedi during his retreat from the catacombs.
Once again, Grievous used his training from Darth Tyrannus to viciously strike each of the Jedi down, leaving no trace of his existence and leaving no record of his presence at the battle of Geonosis. Unfortunately, the names of these Jedi were never revealed and it’s very likely that the Jedi Order did not even realize that they had been killed on Geonosis, because of the sheer amount of loss that the Jedi faced in the arena battle on that day. Their bodies were also most likely never recovered, and left to rot in darkness of the Geonosis catacombs.
General Grievous’ involvement in the first battle of Geonisis was not discovered by the Republic until much later in the war, further making the Council worry that the fall of the Republic had been in motion for far longer than even they had realized.
As the Clone Wars began to spread to the furthest reaches of the Galaxy, Grievous was finally taken out of the shadows and revealed as the newest Separatist General the Supreme Commander of the Droid Army, sending shockwaves through the Republic military. Once Grievous was finally allowed to utilise his military strength and command separatist battle droids in open warfare, his forces continued to strike fear and terror into the hearts of every planet he conquered, and quickly became one of the worst nightmares the Clone Troopers on Kamino were trained to face.
In the early months after Grievous was revealed, many citizens of the Republic, including planetary Governments were terrified of the cyborg General, and the pure destruction and devastation that he would cause if he was to ever set his sights on their worlds.
The citizens of the Confederacy on the other hand were never told about General Grievous’s brutal and horrific slaughters, in order to maintain the idea that the Separatists were simply fighting for the right to be considered equal, and not seen as a vicious war machine. Because of this false reputation, Grievous was eventually even seen as the true leader of the separatist alliance over Count Dooku, because most of it’s citizens saw the former Jedi Master as a noble, but misguided man.
So that is the dark and disturbing story of General Grievous’ rampage at the first battle of Geonosis, which he managed to keep completely secret.
