Greivous was one of the most proficient Jedi killers in known galactic history even holding off several Jedi masters at once.
However Grievous struggles tto hold his own against any of his opponents in the third star wars movie and has a crippling cough. While the out of universe reason is that they had not yet fully developed the character that would appear in Revenge of the Sith when making the cyborg an absolute powerhouse in the original Clone Wars TV Series. However in , Mace Windu is seen using the force crush technique on the Grievous during the battle of corusant, severely weakening the Kaleesh general and giving us the more cowardly general we know and love.

Imagine being so powerful that you had to be nerfed because you were such a badass and nobody could beat you.

Its called "he's the villain and he wasn't in the original trilogy so he has to lose" syndrome

That means Obi Wan could barely fend off a severely weakened Grievous.

Mace Windu crushed his heart, not his lungs. His cough is from congestive heart failure. He lives in pure agony. If he was force sensitive, he would be one of the most powerful Sith Lords.

I actually hate the cowardly version. Give me back that Jedi killing bad ass.

I heard George prefered the idea of a coward rather than a fierce warrior, if so I guess we can add it to the long list of “Things People should have told Lucas was a bad idea” lol

Your knowledge will make a fine addition for my collection

And this is why I go for Grievous then Mace. Crush the general's chest that made him weak, and goes on being a jerk to Anakin and Ahsoka at the end of the clone wars

My favorite explanation is that G's greatest strength was his mind. Sure, he could match most jedi in a fair fight, but he prefers to break them before he engages them- which is why he was such a good general and seemed so cowardly compared to the more chivalrous jedi. He doesn't fight fair, and that's to his credit, imo

Grievous is easily my favorite starwars character, why can't we have more of him :(

I like to believe grievous was a chain smoker and just can’t breath

I bet if the prequel‘s were made first he would’ve survived
He beat obi-wan round one but Anakin saved him
The next movie would be Obi-Wan finishing grievous in a much more honorable way

"And can even hold off several Jedis at once"
General grievous: **Has four arms and is a robot**
No fucking shit

Grievous at the time was severely wounded and only lost to obi-wan because he let his guard down and obi-wan was forced to use a blaster to survive

George has also admitted he nerfed him

Grievous: "I'll try spinning, that's a good trick."

The short answer: Mace Windu
The long answer: Mace force crushed his chest towards the end of the Assault on Coruscant.

My personal head cannon is that palps knew that 2003 grievous would be too strong to contain after dookus plans went through (helping him be able to use the force) and so he did some trickery to weaken grievous or even replace him in a way
