SHOTCUT Video Editor - Is It Any Good?

*DISCLAIMER* - I did not just sit down, hit record and open up ShotCut for the first time in this video. I didn't enjoy the platform when using it, and wanted to make a point about how non user-friendly it is. That is all.

This video is about ShotCut, a free video editing software. If you are a beginner video editor, have a look through this video and decide whether ShotCut would be the best platform for you to learn on. I did find ShotCut hard to work with and took lots of time to understand it, and even after that, I still couldn't remember how half of the platform worked. But you have a look and let me know your thoughts in the comments!

I’ve been using shotcut well over a year now… and i gotta say it is usable! It does have some limitations but still. It’s good enough for making vlogs and or gaming content. It’s also pretty friendly to older, slower PC’s. It’s confusing at first but with a little bit of watching Youtube tutorials you’ll get used to it

Also at 1:17 you gotta press “S” on your keyboard. The thing that it did is the same thing that would happen if you pressed “X”

The output quality and no watermarking make this a viable program. It lacks dr as g and drop transitions and complicated effects require frame exporting and manipulation. If you spend some time learning it you will get great output...

I started editing with not experience at all, Shotcut is very easy to learn and very stable. I created over 40 videos and I love it.

Shotcut is good for my laptop since the hardware is a bit old but at home I always opt for a more modern video editing software. It definitely has its place in the world!

Shotcut is a perfect program for people who are just starting editing videos. Yeah, it isn't Adobe Premier Pro, but that is the point, isn't it? Yet, you are acting like it is so hard to use or navigate in the program, which I really don't understand.
It is very user-friendly, easy to learn and there are a lot of video on yt to learn from.

How can you review something if you don't know much about it yourself?

Davinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere have a waaaay steeper learning curve. Shotcut is actually good for beginner editors because it is comparatively easy to use/learn compared to some of the other programs out there.

I went from having practically no experience with any kind of video editor (all I'd ever used one for was cutting bits out of a video to make into a GIF) to editing together a short film (a three-minute comedy sketch) in ShotCut over the course of a weekend last week. I don't know how it compares with other video editors since I haven't used them, but just on its own ShotCut is very usable.

Just waste my time with this video. You should learn the basics of every program. Most powerful programs aren't intuitive, you have to study to master them.

As a fairly new user I find it quite intuitive compared to something like iMovie which I found incomprehensible. Horses/courses.

This was the first one i tried and it works for few years now.I tried to shift to da vinci or adobe but they are to complicated so i guess to tell if its user friendly it needs to be done by someone who didnt work on any program.

There is a fair bit of consensus that Shotcut is more user-friendly than for example Kdenlive. But for any editor, it would do better justice to it just getting familiar first with its UI features, as non are identical to each other. It has for example simple keyframes vs advanced keyframes, and if one does not know the difference, it could be negatively prejudiced. Compared to Kdenlive I find it much easier to use, but less volume of features. It is actually easier for a beginner to use than Kdenlive.

This program was very confusing at 1st but I love it now. I wouldn't choose any other program well unless I had the money for a paid program

Shotcut is open source, so it reigns supreme.

I have used Shotcut for over a year but made the switch to DaVinci. Shotcut is not a bad editor at all. I have made tone of cool content using this software but I needed something more in order to improve myself. Shotcut is, however, very CPU heavy. DaVinci is smoother and faster because it balances CPU and GPU.
I have no regret using Shotcut, it is a good step to something more professional and prestigious.

Yeah maybe you should review and research before starting the video...because this was painful for anybody who learned and uses shotcut regularly...you made so many cringy mistakes it was frustrating...i mean yea sure its not obvious if you're brand new but once youre used to it its totally usable and easy...ive beem using it for 3 years now and all my videos come out crisp...

I started using shotcut because I had an older PC with 4GB ram and shotcut was the only video editing software that would work. However unlike you, I actualy took the time to look at a few youtube howto videos. You wasted my time and I think Shotcut excellent for the average user, and very very easy to use. Maybe you should think about that. Shotcut is free and open source and is updated constantly by some very clever people. Ill never darken your door again. Cheers.

Shotcut is good for learning how to edit videos. Once you figure out shotcut, other editors become pretty easy to learn.
