Does The Deadlift REALLY Build Muscle?! 🤔🤷‍♂️

Is deadlifting good for hypertrophy? Deadlifts don't build muscle and are just used to develop raw strength is what people seem to believe. But is there any truth to that?

I never tried the deadlift because I’ve had a bad back for most of my life. I recently started very light, but have progressed with heavier weight. Not only have strengthened my back, but I get what I call a ‘deadlift high’ for most of the day.

Bruh deadlift was one of the first exercises I did with heavy weight and I love doing it because it helps strengthen my legs and I like to run a lot

I finally hit 205 Lbs on the deadlift(hit a PR yesterday), getting closer to double my body weight. The goal is 300.

This is true, every well respected natural bodybuilder will tell you deadlifts and other hip hinges are great for posterior chain hypertrophy

I built some pretty big hamstrings and traps with pretty much just deadlifts. I have had back problems but that’s because I was dumb with programming. Advice I can give is give deadlifts the most rest time in between sessions, and don’t go overboard with the amount of sets and effort, I just hit a pr on 3 sets a week (probably gonna go to 4 or 5 soon). Also having good form is really important so focus on that. But as long as you keep it moderate and train smart they’re a very good mass builder, you don’t need to train traps anymore, and it feels awesome to progress and hit prs in. Form differs from person to person but I’ve found a stance like professionalweakguy’s conventional is the best for me personally, very close feet, arms completely vertical, pretty upright. Helps me brace and push into the ground much better, not to mention it feels way better on my back than a wider stance. I don’t like sumo just cause I have bad hips so my mobility and strength with it makes it feel really weird and unsafe.

I don’t deadlift because I injured my back doing it before I knew how to lift properly. You can still get an equal workout without deadlifting, many of the world strongmen have agreed with that. Not saying you shouldn’t do it, but you really don’t need to and if you are concerned about it just don’t. Lifting is about health, don’t injure yourself in the pursuit of it.

Increases test for a very small amount of time, nothing to be maintained. It’s not a TRT dowse where test is consistent all throughout the day

To many "experts" don't even know how to Deadlift. Then call it terrible. Shame on them. Its incredible for real change and rehab for the body.

We actually got a talk from Eagles preformance coach, Ted Rath when he came for our football team. From what i know he said straight bar deadlifts arent as good for athletes as trap bar deadlifts

It's not a bad exercise but for the effort and time you put in perfecting it there are better alternatives when it comes to hypertrophy

people neglect to learn proper form for the deadlift which is why they get hurt

Deadlift is indeed a superior move, weak wimps on comment section better get stronger instead of talking shit about the move.

I agree with 99% of this video. The only thing I’d say differently is not to go heavy on this exercise unless you compete. Otherwise use weight that you can control and do 4x8-12. That will do plenty in terms of longevity and muscle growth.

I do 8 reps deadlift to help strengthen and grow my lower back muscles. I remember back then I avoided it because I thought it would stunt my growth at the time.

I agree deadlifts really give you nice traps.

However, my lower back pain is completely gone since I stopped deadlifting. It fucks your lower back, the risk to reward is not worth it. Why do you think athletes never deadlift?
