Like adults, children who experience childhood clinical depression are also experiencing some type of neurochemical imbalance, perhaps related to their neurotransmitters. What we have to understand is, that there's a genetic component to childhood clinical depression. We have to recognize that children experiencing depression often have had some type of precursor that causes the initial moodiness and irritability, but they were already susceptible to the diagnosis because of a genetic component. Childhood clinical depression is definitely treatable, and there are many medications and behavioral therapy options that are helpful. Although the causes of childhood clinical depression are vast and there are many factors, these are some of the important keys for every parent to understand.
