I loved this guy and he never told me he loved me but I like to think he did... But he was so passive, and I thought it wasn't effeminate to ask him out. He got married recently, to this horrible woman who is super controlling, and he's said things sometimes during their engagement that make me think he thought of me fondly (just references only he and I knew). In many ways I'm grateful I'm where I am and he is where he is because he was so passive and reliant on someone to tell him what to do, but I really think we could have been good for one another and grown together in a way that was good for us both. Will never know...

It's not the same story, or even super similar, but I relate to Anne and Gilbert and their crossing paths and the mishaps and regrets and tearing up that note seeing him at the library with that another girl because yes she does like him. Like ships in the night they criss-crossed so often--locations, feelings, readiness--the two of them. My heart strings are tugged SO HARD and many times I forget about this guy or I tell myself I'm better off, but then I see this story and similar stories where communication and timing are difficult and I KNOW the ending is so much better when things workout and people move beyond their selfishness or misapprehensions or fears or whatever to realize what they have in front of them really, really is worth it. I'm still hoping for someone some day (soon would be so nice 🙏) but what that difficult time taught me in my life is that it's worth it to try for the shy guy crush... Try to communicate, try to talk to him alone, don't miss an opportunity, don't be too proud.

I hope you all have a good night. The past is a good teacher, even if it's someone else's. 🤍🤍🤍☺️

“I don’t want sun bursts or marble halls, I just want you”

My Absolute favourite line that’s the kind of love I want!

This was one of the most beautiful edits I have ever seen! Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie will always be the best Anne and Gilbert, their chemistry was electrifying! You could tell Gilbert was in in it for the long haul the moment he laid eyes on her.

So beautifully done! These Anne of Green Gables movies were my absolute favorite growing up. And this brings back SO much nostalgia 😭😭😍

Both versions are good in their own way. Each actor portrays differently but without losing the character's essence.

This Anne looks more reckless, and Gilbert more teasing.
The Netflix actress has a more warm approach to Anne and Gilbert's actor makes him look mysterious.

Reminds me of Pride and Prejudice series and movie. Both good examples of different approaches of portrayal, in acting, ambience and photography, but both good for different reasons.

My parents recorded this mini series off of CBC when it first aired, my older sister and I watched that VHS all through the 80s and 90s, one of my absolute favorites

My Dad bought me the first book to the Anne of Green Gables series when I was little- as soon as I would finish one I would beg him to take me to the bookstore to get the next one- I read every single one of them! Then I watched the “movie” from 1985 and they did such an amazing job with following the story line. I loved every minute of it.

The books where they fall in love and are newlyweds are also beautiful. Wish I could see true adaptations of those ones.

Anne of Green Gables (1985) is so magical. I remember watching it the first time years ago and falling in love and watching the sequel and the third one. It became one of my faovurites. I read the books after watching it too. But these actors really brought the characters to life in a way that can never be replicated. And I just feel so nostalgic while watching this

Still love the Sullivan versions the best...still missing Jonathan Crombie, devastated with Megan Follows when he passed on so unexpectedly...he is forever Gilbert. I'm still waiting for my Gilbert Blythe, could be this year he puts a ring on my finger...

Ever since the first, I saw that boyish grin, I instantly fell in love with Gilbert Blythe. The story of Anne and Gilbert has always been one that is close to my heart, and someday I wish to have a friendship with a man like he. These films are such a part of my life and childhood, and when I hear the theme by Hagood Hardy, I am so moved by the love, and friendship of these two wonderful characters! RIP Jonathan Crombie, you were my first love, and are the standard that hold for any man that I meet!

This was so beautifully done. I absolutely adore this couple. They filled me with dreams of realistic love and perfect soulmates when I was a little girl and even today, all grown up. I don't want sunbursts or marble halls. I just want a man like Gilbert. Wonderful tribute! Thanks for sharing.🥰

I haven’t seen the original movies, only the Netflix show. But I still love these two. He’s loved Anne since she smashed the slate over his head. 😍 The scene when Gilbert was dying and he saw Anne and was telling her how much he loves her and how there will never be anyone for him but her made me heart break. I know he lives but it was so sad. I’m glad they finally got together and lived happily ever after. I love slow-burn ships. For me they’re the best.
