the best part is that Gilbert took Winifred's advice when she says 'the best part about knowing the rules is finding acceptable ways to break them'; hes concentrating in the beginning thinking of how to get anne to dance with him and then he breaks the rules of the dance by pulling her next to him and he's smirking because he's so pleased with himself

two things i've noticed in this scene that makes it even more romantic:

1. how when he's dancing with anne, his arms are slightly more curved and bent towards her so she can be closer to him. compare this to when he dances with the other girl, his arms are rigid straight

2. how when the music fades out, it serves as a massive symbolism to the moment where they truly see each other, and only each other. they forget about everything and anyone else in that moment and can only focus on them and their kindred spirits. that's true love, and the music portrays it perfectly
