I spent around 1-2 years practicing in my backyard. Didn’t have any defense and could only really punch/box. Recently like 5 months ago I started kicking. It got solid but now I take classes. If you do practice at home, WORK ON DEFENSE. More than you even do offense. It’s easier to learn offense than defense by yourself.

I learned one technique at home which I really liked, its called the spinning hook kick. I first trained to increase flexibility (3-4months). After that I followed every singe step with every minuscule detail (BVO taekwondo video, the man explains it really well).

Not going to the next step till I could repeat it a dozen of times flawlessly. For example, making sure that I spin on the ball of my foot, using my hands in the movement of spinning etc.

basically (trying) to master everything before the full execution of the kick. Now I take classes, I showed my technique to my new coach, and he says its quiet a decent spinning hook kick.

If you are a fast learner then you can pick up a few things online as well. But going to classes is usually recommended.

Hey Nat, thank you for being such an inspiration to me, when I started practicing martial arts, specifically Taekwondo and Karate I didn't have the financial requirements to have a teacher or a dojo. I started watching your videos around 2 years ago and you've helped me a lot with my technique and form, before I used to think Martial arts could only be done in a dojo or with a teacher but anyone can do it, you just need to have the heart. Thank you Nat for being such a big help.

Two things I learned practicing on my own is 1 make sure out of everything you stretch your hammys etc I’ve almost gotten to David goggins level stretching lmao not only for martial arts but just my overall body health, and 2 YouTube is def your friend in terms of learning anything that can be learned you’d be surprised how quickly you can gain knowledge from watching something and putting it into your own repertoire, im also glad to see I’m not the only one who kicks lights off etc😂

Really good to see I've been doing this right. When I trained in Japan, I would train at the dojo twice, sometimes three times a week, and I had a lot of space at home to work on my katas and such. Back here in the States, I'm always very confined on space and I can't really train at a dojo. I can do heavy bag at the gym, that's about it. I've done most of this stuff for years, but somehow the thought never occurred to me to practice full step strikes by stepping back. Game changer!

I had to stop training back in high school because I had to focus more on my studies, but since then years later I bought myself a punching bag so I can continue my martial arts training along with using Thrill of the Fight VR, the most realistic boxing game on VR, to help with it.

I've been practicing martial arts at home since last year.
I didn't think I'd need a video like this one, but I'm happy I got to take a few tips. Thank you for this✌🏽😌
