TVs seem to be betting bigger as time goes on but I have a question. Is it possible for TV to be too big for your room? Let's talk about it.

When I first moved in to my house I had 50 inch Toshiba at a 14ft viewing distance. It looked so tiny. Fast forward a few years later and I upgraded to a 77 CX. To be honest, I still feel like I should go bigger but my wallet can’t handle it right now lol.

I'm with you - I feel that the bigger the screen the better, but distance to the screen is vitally important as it affects so many things. Seated position is the most important starting point as it affects everything from speaker placement, screen size, screen placement etc. Great video as always mate.

1. Measure the 3 dimensions of your screening room. 2. Pick the largest size screen or TV that will fit. Usually screen width x 1.5 is a good place to sit for sweet spot.

Those recommended screen size tools are a good starting points but shouldn’t be the deciding factor. When I built my home theater these tools said a 90” was the biggest I could go. I taped up a 90” on my wall and it didn’t look big enough. I ended up with 125” and never looked back. I did spend quite a bit more for a projector with lens shift but it was worth to accommodate the largest screen possible. You hit it on the nose. It’s what ever looks good to you!

I've tested my parents 55" TV and it was immersive for some games, but was unconfortable if I used it for Windows or watching a movie with subtitles. Finally I've bought a 48" LG C1 and this is perfect.

A TV can def get too big, for a small room, as i tried that with my 65'' in my gaming room, and were feeling downright sick and almost vomitting. But it worked out, as i could move the TV back further and my chair back.

Just wanted to say thanks for your content. Thanks to many of your projector videos, I found a decent price on an Epson 3800 and built a 165 inch screen. My family loves it and we sit about 13 - 14 feet away. Not sure I’ll ever go back to a TV in the living room again.

Well, I'm 150" in 2.35:1 at 9' so I'm not sure a TV can be too big for my taste. LOL.

The only problem with big TVs is the weight. Those are impossible to move on your own, so you need someone to help.

I remember back in the 80's when we had a 26inch cabinet tv and we thought that was big until i saw a 40 rear projection tv and i thought that was huge. By the way, the cabinet for those things were the equivalent of a wardrobe cabinet. Then there were the 50 and finally 60 inch ones that again at that time was huge. Tv's nowadays are so advanced compared to then. You could literally sit just a few feet and see everything nice and clear with the new flat tv's and also with the new 4k projectors, where as before you had to sit at the back of the living room just to get a good picture. Now in my living room i have a 75inch above the fire place, and a 120 inch rise up screen with a 4K projector and i'm about 10 feet away and everything is clear and sharp.

I must say, you make great videos. I just wish I could afford all this stuff without going hungry for a month or two.

I have an 83" Sony OLED and I sit about 7ft from it as that's all the space I have in my apt. Its massive for this room and I love it!

The only thing that sucks is lower quality content. For the most part, any streaming is wonderful. I love sports and most of the time, it's not 4k. So a big screen sitting close really shows the pixelation.

I used 24 inch TV in kitchen room where coat hanger is behind the TV. Honestly it enough for me. I sit with beanbag i can easily move to 2 feet near TV. Just moved in one bedroom apartment with roommate he sleep in his bedroom, the 32 inch TV is more than enough for him to watch. I usually go for 32 inch TV back in my old apartment and will again buy new 32 inch tv if I get my own bedroom.

I went 75" for my new TV, but its too big. It's fine for watching, but for sitting central where I can, some of the information is too far apart at the corners when gaming.

My setup is in my recroom with just slightly lower ceilings and average sized room. I currently have a 106" screen which is fine but I will definitely be going up to at least 120" when I upgrade. Before I got the screen I just blasted it at the wall at about 140" and it was glorious but with the lower ceilings it was just getting to the point where things on the coffee table were in my sightline. Buy the projector first and play around with different sizes and distances before committing to the screen but you'd be surprised how big you can go in a given space.

Thank you so much for these videos!

A TV is never too small.
Sometimes the room is.

I added a TV room to my house a few years back ( 24x18 ) and I found out through trying different size large screen TVs that 82in works best for me. Even this one sometimes “ feels “ to big for some TV shows but perfect for movies. I was thinking of getting a larger one but my wife doesn’t like the feel of a larger one, so I was thinking a projector for our patio ( it’s covered ). Thanks for posting your videos, it’s going to help me in selecting the right setup.

I sit 12 feet away from my 150 inch projector on a wall without a screen.

I feel that this is the perfect size and distance but the back of my head ALWAYS questions :"Should I sit closer or go for a bigger size"?
Not that it will benefit much, but I love the idea of sitting inside a movie theatre doing whatever I'm doing on my PC. But having an 150 inch projector doesn't give me that "Movie theatre" or "iMAX" experience yet. Although it's getting close, but not quite do you know what I mean?

I used to sit about 15 feet away from the 150 inch projector and I clearly felt the urge to move closer most of the time, the screen size was too small and it almost bothered me. So trust me, bigger is ALWAYS better. Unless if you try the biggest size possible you will never imagine how greedy you get with screen sizes.

P.S I sit 2 feet away from a 55 inch OLED TV for gaming on my desk too. The experience is MIND BLOWINGLY GOOD!
