Always irrigate at night or early in the morning. You want to irrigate when it is cool with no sun. If you irrigate during the hottest and sunniest part of the day a lot of what you irrigate with will evaporate. As the water heats up on the grass it can add additional stress on the blades of grass.

If you decide to irrigate by hand / standard sprinklers I would say do it right after or before the sun sets. If you get an automatic system I would set it for 2 or 3 hours after sunset.

The idea here is to give the water as much time as possible to absorb into the ground before the temperatures increase and the sun rises.

Consider also that if you are using city water to irrigate you may end up having other nutrients in trace amounts which can affect the grass over time. Consider getting a water test and using soil amendments to counteract any additional salts, minerals, and other molecules.

If you go through the trouble of getting your water tested, you might also consider testing your soils to see what nutrients exist in your soil. You may need a fertilizer to supplement any nutrients you are lacking.

I would consider buying a bag of gypsum to amend the soil. It works very well to flush salts out of the soil which makes it easier for plants to absorb the nutrients that exist in your soil.

Any questions please let me know

I recommend watering in the morning, when night temps get in the 60s or more and the lawn is wet, it’s a perfect breeding ground for disease and fungus.

In April the thatch hasn't thickened up... If you would have waited 29 more days from April to May it would have looked the same because it's hotter at night. The grass being green has to do with temps at night, not what month it is. Have patience

Water your lawn early in the morning or late in the evening, so it wont evaporate and your lawn can suck all the water up

Great video, I have a question for you? Have you done soil test? If yes great if not. It’s a soil test called My Soul Test. It’s very easy to used, after have done the test and send it in, you’ll get the results back in a email in about 6-7 days in your email in detail. This will test exactly what you need in your soil to really make your grass grow, and give you a healthy soil. The price is about $30 plus, but it’s one of the best investments for your yard. Thanks

Nnicely done! Quick question, why not smooth it out initially using soil, then sand for the very small differentials in height?

Get a soil test. Then they’ll tell you exactly what nutrients you’re missing. They’ll even give you an application schedule. All the different types are just marketing. 10-10-10 for example is 10% Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium by weight in that order. Liquid iron will help darken leaves and make it look like a baseball diamond. Cheers man.
