Does the Old Testament Promote Genocide? | Episode 163

In the Old Testament, God commands His people to commit what could be described as mass genocide. For instance, in 1 Samuel 15:3, God orders King Saul to attack Amalek and spare nothing within the city, including women, children, and livestock. Dr. David K. Bernard explains how these incidents fit within the larger framework of Scripture, including the more loving and gentler depiction of God in the New Testament.

"For you hold the power of life and death, bringing to the gates of Hades and back again. A human being in wickedness may inflict death but cannot bring the departed spirit back again or free the soul once swallowed up." - Wisdom 16:13-14. These verses state that God alone has power of life and death, as humans do not have the power to give life to the dead, but God does.

Flipping the issue on its head, the Israelites demurred from exterminating the inhabitants of the Promised Land as commanded by God. As a result those nations have been a snare to Israel to this day. Thanks for sharing - love the teaching on the “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” concept.

No God does not promote any kind of evil. In this passage we see God ordering King Saul to wipe out the Amalek. We tend to focus on God as loving, peacefulness, salvational God which is all true. What we forget and or fail to remember is that God is also a JUDGE. As such, a righteous and Holy God must judge sin.

In ancient China this practice to totally annihilate whole families or tribes is played out in many chinese period movies.

God also used heathen nations to punish Israel as well. God used Israel to judge nations, and also used nations to judge Israel. Israel themselves would have suffered the same consequences.

The man in the video doesn't explain why God is not genocidal, he only explain why God did some genocide and added that God is merciful because He refrain from doing genocide from time to time.

3rd time asking..

I was raised in a trinitarian Pentecostal church but have in the past 4 years converted to oneness and been baptized in Jesus name.
My question is, why or how can trinitarians be filled with Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in unknown tongues if they do not have a proper understanding of scripture or have out right rejected the Biblical teaching of the oneness

The liberated oppressed make the best oppressors. Why does Dr Bernard choose to teach genocide now? I find it interesting how Dr Bernard speaks of nations in the past that stood against or supported Ancient Israel and their outcomes … and when I contrast Israel’s heinous actions against the people of Gaza since October 2023 - against how the dictator in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia behaved… it seems the secular government of modern Israel is also guilty of genocide.

I am not being anti-Semitic- I am anti human suffering. It seems The secular government of Israel is operating beneath the International standards ‘acceptable warfare’ … killing of the innocents … the non combatants…. Attacking and killing Christians and destroying 2000 year old Christian temples and mosques… attacking international relief societies trying to ease the suffering of the Gazans.

I call a Magen — a Magen - The actions of the secular government of Israel is utterly reprehensible.
