There is no justification for slavery and the creator of this universe cannot support slavery. This text was made and placed in the bible as a support for slavery. Slavery is an act of wickedness for any human being and it will always be wrong .

I still don’t understand why God said it was okay to buy foreign slaves and consider them property, even passing them on to their children as an inheritance.

So, let me see if I have this right… The Bible has laws to prevent the mistreatment of slaves, but it doesn’t consider slavery itself to be a kind of mistreatment? How does that make sense? So it’s okay to own someone as long as you’re polite to them, don’t beat them too hard and let them go eventually (as long as they’re Jewish and male)? I think you need to make another video explaining this, because even for all your reinterpretations and cherry picking, you still are doing a pisspoor job explaining why biblical slavery is okay.

3:05 so couldn’t he have just made a law saying slavery is bad from the very beginning? The mental gymnastics are sad

I don’t get this at all. If he’s all loving and compassionate, he could have just said “THOU SHALT NOT OWN SLAVES”, but he didn’t. This entire video feels like a reach.

Wouldn't God have condemned these practices, if they weren't His will, instead of "making up" rules, just in case they did happen?

Deuteronomy 23:15-16
“You shall not give back to his master the slave who has escaped from his master to you. He may dwell with you in your midst, in the place which he chooses within one of your gates, where it seems best to him; you shall not oppress him.“

I like how you pull from all parts of the Bible so things can be put in perspective. People often (including religious people) preach verses out of context. You have shown that the whole Bible is our context. Really great video. Appreciate your sound and balanced teachings.

"However, you may purchase male and female slaves from among the nations around you. You may also purchase the children of temporary residents who live among you, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property,  passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat them as slaves, but you must never treat your fellow Israelites this way."
-Leviticus 25:44–46

"You may" is a way of permitting an action. And these are specific guidelines as well so it's unlikely a metaphor. Spin it how you want, god is telling you slavery is okay.

If The OT did not condone slavery the law would be full of things like "Though shall not enslave no one under no circumstance.." or "slavery is detestable...". You don't have to go through all of the theological and rhetorical gymnastics man. The OT and NT never forbade slavery as something that God is against. The first thing you have to do is accept that and make theology from that fact, otherwise you are being disingenuous with yourself and your audience. All Christians, which includes me, should accept that reality and deal with it as best as they can.

I'm not religious ...
The Bible totally contradicts itself on many levels.
The Bible does not support Jesus's teachings....
Jesus s teachings are to love God and love your neighbor as yourself....
There's no slavery in that....
So the Bible totally contradicts what Jesus taught.
The Bible is Israel's history book and prophecy book concerning only Israel and the old world surrounding it at the time that it was written.
Israel and the old world did not know that North America South America and Australia even existed.
I could go on with many things that I have come to understand but I'll leave it at that for right now....
That's exactly why I'm not religious and never want to be.

Very good topic. Sadly most people will not want to accept it. I hope this video gets around and people listen

God bless you and your family. I watched the video you did 7 months ago about slowing down on the channel to focus on your family and I want send a word of encouragement. Luke 12:33. Even if you’re doing videos and it’s not getting traction don’t worry. That doesn’t mean you’re not pleasing our Heavenly Father. A mistake people make in ministry is equating more people coming to church/channel or anything similar as a sign of success. You keep spreading the good news and God will be pleased. You want people to be here because they want to increase their faith in Jesus not because they want to hear salacious gossip. Remember the most important thing is people hearing the gospel and as you mentioned there are many channels we can get that from so you don’t have to do it alone. We are all one body in Christ. Pray, fast and spend time with God and his spirit will guide you. God bless

Very well done and informative on a subject that complicated. Could tell you have done much research.

I’m even more conflicted now after watching this… why couldn’t condemnation of slavery just be part of the 10 commandments? Considering it was used as a tool to enslave people since it was written, that would have prevented immeasurable suffering. What were we supposed to gain or learn by enslaving people who are supposed to be equal to us…

extremely well thought out answer. slavery has always existed and will always exist as a result of the human condition, unfortunately, and in the Bible, its contextualized as a product of the times
and THIS slavery (and indentured servitude) was not the same as the chattel slavery Black people were subjected to, very important, and sadly this is a biiiig reason many Black folks turn away from Christ, and the Church because of this.

...as a Black woman though, ill admit it does make me wonder why my ancestors had to suffer so much...thank you so much for this and for expounding!

Why can’t God put in the 10 commandments, “Thou shall not own slaves” or “Slavery is forbidden”?
