This is by far my favorite track from the Undetale OST, even the melodies are screaming "Hope" and "Battle" into your face!
I just had to do this one and I'm satisfied with how it turned out.
(Also I realized that I only did Vocals of genocide songs lol)

I find it amazing that everyone has different headcanons for Undyne's voice yet, for example, Papyrus almost always has the same one.

I love how her attitude changes in the song. At first, she's confident in her victory, saying that she'll take the others to the top. But as the song nears the end, she realizes that she's going to lose, but is happy with what she has accomplished, and puts her faith in Alphys, knowing that she'll be able to do what Undyne couldn't.

It's really awsome to listen to.

I like how even when she knows she's losing the fight, the lines: "This will be the end of your Genocide" still apply since she knows Alphys is already evacuating everyone.

There's a reason The Undying is my favorite boss fight, the fight is perfectly challenging (without completely stomping you like sans did), the music is GODLY, and it shows undyne's character better than anything else in the entire game. By that, I mean that in the neutral/pacifist route, she's relentlessly chasing you to take your soul and her human prejudice shows a little more than her willing to protect, this is only changed after you befriend her, if you kill her in the neutral run, she tries to use the undying, but can't because she's aiming to kill instead of protecting, while in genocide, you are the heartless bastard that she was taught humans were before meeting you and she can use that power because she knows what you'll do if she doesn't.

Undyne is a warrior. She has seen lots of death and is the true hero if you choose the genocide run is the same person that burns down her house cooking spaghetti if you choose a different route

When you realize the "she" that Undyne refers to is Alphys and its thought that Alphys kills herself if you slay Undyne it hurts

a friend of mine once tried the genocide route. when he got to undyne the undying he kept trying and trying but never succeeded. he fell to the true hero and did not stand up again. and thus undyne became my favorite character just for that

I'mma go in order here.

*"Raise your weapon, try to fight me if you dare"* - Normally, Undyne will pretty much baby you in the fight. If you fail miserably to block too many hits, she will complain that you need to start blocking, and that she doesn't want to win like this. Undying gives you no such chance.


*"The wind is howling"* - mid-battle flavor text. Also, remember. Undertale is set underground. Yet Undyne brings forth the winds of the surface. She represents the hope of all monsters.


*"Deep in my soul, a feeling comes through. Everyone's hearts are now beating as one. I'll give my everything, save them from you."* - Edited, more lyrical takes on lines from Undyne during the battle. When fighting the player, she dies, and is reborn, and upon her rebirth? She feels that she must give her all- Even her last breath- to protect the others. Everyone's hearts are now beating as one. She can understand and feel every feeling of fear in the monsters around you, and she can also feel their love for each other, which she needs to protect.


*"Everyone's hopes are shared in one dream. It is with elation that I want to keep."* - Be it Alphys' love of anime, and wishes for more? Mettaton's love for attention, and his hope to be a star on the surface? Toriel's wishes to start a school?
All of this is shared in a single dream. The dream to see the surface.
As dangerous as this fight is, Undyne is happy to risk her life protecting those dreams. Elated, even.


*"This is our one and last victory call, not even you can slay such noble cause."* - Monsters have suffered defeat after defeat, without a single victory. Now? Now is their chance. A human has came to the underground, and been treated with peace, only to choose to kill their queen, and the most lOVABLE FUCKING SKELETON ALIVE DAMNIT- ahem- Now Undyne stands in the way of you causing further harm. In her mind, her cause makes her stronger- not physically, but mentally- and that, as anyone who has played the Undying battle will tell you, makes things a whole lot harder for you. The monsters win this? And they never have to fight for their freedom again. This would have been their first- and last- real victory.


*"I regret all of the things that have still been left unspoken. I would give them all to you, if I could just turn back the time."* - In the Genocide route, Undyne never got the chance to talk to Alphys. Had we gone True Pacifist? You- the player- would have been the one that Undyne entrusted with delivering the message.


*"We were climbing higher up, but now one by one we're falling."* - Monster-kind was so close. No real problems plaguing them, and they had six of the seven souls they needed. But now? You've halted that progress. Due to you, more and more monsters are ending up Fallen.


*"Still I take them to the top, you can't break my spirit in time."* - By this point? She has realised that she's on a timer. She doesn't care. She planned on fighting until her last breath anyway. For now, at least? She plans on taking you down with her. She will take the monsters to the top- the surface- even if she never sees that surface herself.


*"I won't try to run away, even if you see me falling."* - That's just not who Undyne is. She's realised now that her timer won't let her defeat you. Even so, she will bide time. After all...
*..."She will take them to the top, gather all her courage in time."* - Alphys. It's said in game that she was helping monsters evacuate your path. She is leading them for now. Should she be able to muster up some courage? She will be able to use the time time Undyne is buying to think of something. Some way to stop you, and use your soul to escape.


*"This will be your final breath, fight against a true heroine."* - This isn't a statement. This is a command. She's telling you that this? This will be your final metaphorical breath. The last moment of what little humanity you have, until you're more of a monster than the monsters themselves. And she's telling you to- after this- fight against a True Heroine. Alphys, while not physically fighting you? Sends mettaton after you, and ultimately stops you from personally wiping out all monsters. In the end? You've lost.

Undyne was the one who actually stopped my Genocide Run for good, and I was playing this song on loop over the entire fight. Am I mad? No. Because it was still a Battle Against a True Hero.
