Why iPhones Don't Have Removeable Batteries

There are some Android devices on the market today that still feature removable batteries. Something that used to be standard on older cellphones. It was a desirable feature since you could simply replace a degrading battery with a new one and restore its battery life. But Apple never included removable batteries on their iPhones. And I’ll explain why in this video.

I work at a 3rd party repair shop. Samsung, Apple, Google, etc. all have "nonremovable" batteries. Partly for planned obsolescence and partly for water resistance. Batteries will normally last for around 2-4 years before the cells have degraded, obviously there are outliers but this is the average lifespan. Apple only makes parts available to a select few companies and then they like to make a simple repair something like a 2-3 day hassle when most repairs take under an hour. right to repair is a thing for a reason, manufacturers can design products however they want, but they at least need to have parts, tools, and software readily available and fairly priced for repairing the devices.

Thank you for adding the last part about profit! This was missing in the SD Card slot video.

I remember when lots of people used to get worried about not being able to replace battery long time ago and nowadays we’re used to it and it’s ok for the design and safety of the phones

The S5 was a perfect example of removable battery and water resistance. But if Apple says no, user will agree with anything Apple says....

In the past, when phones didnt have any water resistance, I always wondered why my galaxy note 2 had a removable back and battery and my mother's iphone 5c didn't. Finally, inner peace.

I have an iPhone XS which I’m very satisfied with, I just need battery replacement as my battery health is 84%. I’m happy it will still get latest updates for the coming years as it can hold them quite easily.

Apple can still make a profit from selling removable batteries. You’re gonna replace that iphone battery with another iphone battery anyway, so…
But then again, 3rd party manufacturers would probably make & sell cheaper batteries for “13th phone” or smth, which could result in crappy-made batteries, resulting in poor phone performance and maybe even a short circuit.
The shape of the battery doesn’t matter, you can still replace an L shape one.

I replaced the battery myself in my old iPhone 6S because I didn’t want to pay for the 8 or 10 at the time. I had that phone with the replaced battery until the iPhone 11 came out. Now I’m on the 13 😅

In Apple's defense, at least their battery had a pull tab that can be used to ease the removal process. Although they did find a way to lock your battery digitally through software which is a big L on Apple's part.

But Samsung however, they literally puts a Death Grip adhesive under their battery which not only difficult to remove even with Iso-alcohol but also dangerous to do so.

I just wanna say anyone here is an actual engineer knows that most point given in video are bs. There are plenty of ways to seal a device outside of glue (lol) and achieve ip waterproof, not resistant ratings while maintaining a realize size factor without all the “fancy” bulky hardware. Truthfully said not making batteries interchangeable in the way apple does is for monetary reasons and has a negative effect on the environment that all of share.

What I will do when battery in my iPhone will degrade? If I will have enough money to buy a completely new iPhone, I will do exactly that. Otherwise, I will replace the battery myself.

@0:50 “if the battery can come out then water can get in. Such as from toilets…” just keeping it real 😂 👍🏾

I don't agree with your water resistance argument as New phone such as fair phone and Samsung x cover have removable battery and water resistance too. I believe a removable battery should be a common thing as it will help reduce the waste that goes hand and hand with Apples vision too. But Apple being Apple won't do it as it Will cause them less profits from new iPhone sales.
