UPDATE:* I WAS After extended research, this feature seems to use Bluetooth, however, it only works on phones that have a modern Bluetooth chipset. Not sure which phones qualify but it does not seem to be working on my iPhone XR. Seems like it's iPhone 11 and up. I may be wrong, some people are saying that it uses the U1 Chip but I'm unable to find any credible sources. It most likely uses both assuming the phone in question has the U1. I think it works even without a SIM card, it uses the U1 chip

For extra security set your control center to be only accessible while unlocked, that way any would-be thieves couldn’t turn on airplane mode

Ya that’s how my sister’s phone got stolen, one of her students yoinked it from her desk and removed the SIM card, and then had the GALL to leave a note on her desk asking to unblacklist it because she was going to give it her friend for her birthday😭

The problem with these features is they are advertised as anti theft. Even if you show up to the thiefs house with the police, They will tell you that they can't enter and there is nothing they can do. Even if they can physically see your device on the map in real time. If GOV an local law enforcement agencies were actually on board for being able to actually make use of these features people would cry about big brothers information access.

In samsung galaxy watches and phones, there is option "offline finding" which enables your lost galaxy device to connect with nearby galaxy devices and send your phone's location directly to you.

it doesn't need a SIM card, it works like an airtag, sending the location to a near iphone with internet connection, and than it goes to apple's servers (but it only works with iphones that has a U1 chip)

I used Find my iPhone for the one time my iPhone got lost. It was in a hotel and I saw on the map it was somewhere in the office (one of the workers found it and gave it to the manager who in turn put it in his safe in the office that only he and one other person has the combo for.) The manager was gone for the day but the day after he came back open up the safe and gave me my phone...
