Welcome To My Channel Navigating Academia

Hello There!👋

On this episode of Navigating Academia, Dr. Singh discusses the role of GPA in grad school admission.

GPA is one of the many factors that together form your grad school application. There are essays, LoRs (letters of recommendation), resumes, test scores, and several other aspects that the admissions team deliberates over before deciding on who to admit. So, GPA is by no means the “end all be all” in the grad school admission process.

However, it does play a specific and important role in your application. Along with your test score, your GPA is an indicator of your academic aptitude and potential. It helps the admissions team estimate how easy or difficult it could be for you to handle the academic load of the program.

Navigating Academia is your leading source for professional guidance on how to advance your career in academia. Hosted by internationally-renowned Cambridge and UPenn faculty member, Dr. Jay Phoenix Singh, this series provides practical advice for tackling the field’s biggest challenges.

Thank you so much for this video! Really, thank you!

This is my situation, I have a bachelor's degree that I earned back in 2014 with a very very very low GPA (2.3) due to circumstances, health issues, and medication that caused me a disability.

However, last year I earned a master's degree from Harvard University - HES- with a GPA of 3.89. My goal is to apply to HBS (Harvard Business School) Ph.D.

So, which GPA will the admission officers consider the most?

What are my chances?

Thank you very much! :)

I also had another question because I just realized you’re a Fulbright scholar 😊 I’m hoping to study abroad and would need a full-ride scholarship to do so. The Fulbright scholarship is definitely something I’m striving for though I realize how competitive it is. I noticed that it seems fairly flexible about the minimum GPA/grades required, but is that just there as a minimum? because I’m worried they only *really* accept people with 3.8+ GPAs (mine‘s 3.69 Journalism major) Based on what I’ve read about it, Fulbright seems to value relevant work and leadership experience more. ❤️ Love your content!

Great video! I'm hoping that my BA cum GPA of 3.92 and MA cum GPA of 3.93 help me get accepted into a PhD program. Hopefully it shows consistency and academic potential.

Hello Dr how are you. I live in iran and I have some questions about pursuing LLM in the USA.:
how much is important to have moot court in your resume to reach full scholership?
Is GPA from another country important for universities generally?
I will realy thankful if I can have a call with you just for 5 minutes to ask my another questions, because we live in Iran and we have not so many information about global law.
I express my gratitude to you🙏

I graduated with a B.A in journalism. My GPA was 3.69, should I bother applying to Master’s programs that ask for 3.7 minimum?
