People who never went to college always have a bone to pick with those that did.

Rather have 4 years of my youth being carefree spending most of my time doing whatever I want to do and surrounded by my peers, than anything else. Somethings money can’t buy.

I had only the money I earned working a job in junior/senior year. Was never sure if I was even gonna graduate....just did the best I could. Only thing I knew was Dad saying, "you turn 18....your ass is out the door".

Three months after my 18th birthday I was out on my own. Still don't understand how I had a diploma when I bombed Algebra 2 senior year.

My parents had zero intention of guiding me or helping me. To this day, I don't have much. I've had tp work my ass off in every shit job I could ever get. But all my shit is MINE....and no one else's.

I remember telling a Swiss couple that when I graduated HS in Canada I didn’t know what i wanted to do for a living, their jaws pretty much hit the floor. What this guy is talking about has been normalized and it shouldn’t

Big high schools here in California…you just walk past for 2 seconds and grab your diploma. You don’t say anything.

I joined the army at 18, wasn't sure on what I wanted to do. I did know the military payed for your education during and after your service.

I was 25W - Telecommunications Operations Chief. Got a communications degree from the military and did night classes at a community College and got electronic communications degree there.

I dropped out of high school at 18, joined the workforce, worked various jobs, many shitty, now i'm 40, making 6 figures in the corporate world and the lack of a degree has never been an issue at all

Yep thats the only reason i went to college. My job has nothing to do with my degree and i got it without my degree

I dropped out in tenth grade, earned my GED in a month, and enrolled in the trade college next door on the campus to my HS at the age of 16.
Got into an aviation maintenace technology class and completed the course just shy of my 19th birthday, only to have had an existential crisis and give up all hope of pursuing that career and destroy my life with violent alcoholism only to get stuck with dead end minimum wage jobs and no hope. Nearly drank myself to death and was comatose in the hospital for a week.
That was nearly a decade ago and I'm still undecided about what I want from life and basically only just exist to ponder the point of it all anymore.

My school you could choose to have it announced that you were going into the workforce directly and your career field the same as the kids who were going to college and the major they chose. It’s a rural area and small schools spread out. My estimate would be 30-40% of the average high schools class goes to the joint county trade school with kids from All the 27 small school districts around just to get out of the socially cqostrapgobic environment of their original home schools. Exacerbated by the fact that young people, specifically from those backgrounds in my experience tend to feel better served by a hands on approach with their education. One which is focused on physical industrial skills that are more common and valuable to our local community more so than other academically driven careers.

I always think it’s suspicious when people say “we need to stop kids from getting educated”

Went to school in NWI, and they didn't make any of us do this. I went to ISU. Had a class of 75. 5 of us went to ISU, 1 to UI, 5 kept farming. All the rest went to Dordt or Northwestern. All of the parents in our town knew the kids were staying within 15 miles for the rest of their lives. The ones who left town seems like celebrities

Heard from high school grad on graduation it isn't fair to ask an 18 year old kid to know what they want to do the rest of there life !!!!
