I think my issue is that I'm dreaming of a couple careers, but the road to those careers is hazy and sometimes feel like a shot in the dark. It's my fear to spend so much money and time on studying something only to find out down the road that the career I wanted is far from what I've been setting myself up for.

Coming from poverty, moved out at 18 on top of that, first generation college student.

100% money matters. I'm not materialistic but I have a strong passion for not starving.

I have a bachelor's in political science, but after college I got an entry level job in IT. I am now a senior database administrator and do quite well. Don't let your degree define you.

I think my problem is that I don’t know what I want to do in my life. I have passions, but anytime I pursue them as a career, it begins to fade.

I'm 17, in the summer between junior and senior year. You could have not uploaded this at a better time, thanks.
Update: I’m almost 19 and I went to college last fall semester and I ended up dropping out because fasfa didn’t give me as much aid because I impulsively decided to go to an expensive private university and now I might go to community college but as of now I still still don’t know wtf I’m doing. 🤷🏽

I majored in Communications and Media but once I got to orientation and heard more about the major I realized I would hate it. So I switched to Public Administration and two months after graduating I landed a job with a local government council :) Don’t be afraid to change your mind, even if you’re the only one walking out of the room.

it’s frustrating that college counselors tell you that money doesn’t matter when it comes to education, but it really does

My Graphic Design degree was a waste of money and time. Absolute waste. Art degrees are pointless. I could’ve been a Tattoo Artist, as I was an apprentice before diving into college, but here I am in debt and jobless. Yes, Graphic Design is a growing field, but not everyone makes it. I am so incredibly turned off by Art now thanks to the “prestigious” college I attended. Art used to be my passion.

Its so true about having a "gift". I have seen adults make it to the Olympics and were never good in sports in their teens!

Your channel has helped me as a college student, Shane. It helped me pick what degree I wanted to get and you helped me realize I wanted to do healthcare, specifically radiation therapy. I found out my university offered that. So, after serious thinking, I am now enrolled in that program and have been loving it. I feel like I won't have to switch my degree like most students. Also, I feel like it has been my calling and I wouldn't have known that was an option without your videos. Keep up the good work, Shane!

This is very helpful! I will try doing some self reflection by answering the questions and exercises in this video. Hopefully I'll learn something from it!

As a mom to a young child… I’m looking into diving into a new career. Which is what brought me to your channel. By the way you deliver your videos I can tell you honestly do care about helping others. You do have characteristics of empathy and hard work. Your parents did a great job with you! Great job to them and kuddos to you on your success, including this you tube-channel. keep up the great work!👏🏽😊

The amount of respect that I have to you only increases the more I watch your videos, I am a 11 grader and I just watched your guide on choosing the right college degree and it was perfect…I have also noticed that we agree on a lot of things the more I watched your videos and even when you mentioned your weaknesses I noticed that we have similar weaknesses and strengths Lol watching you almost feels like watching an older, smarter, more experienced and more knowledgeable version…. of myself…kinda of myself …which is just perfect

I really appreciate and respect the effort that goes into researching this stuff and letting the young people like me learn and get educated

Thank you

I wish this video existed when I was a high school senior in 2008-2009. But I believe that having work experience is helpful that way you have an idea of how it is to work in a certain industry and see if you like it or not.

damn I thought I knew all this already, but actually going through it step by step and having someone guide me through it was really helpful and helped me catch things that I missed before. Thanks Shane!

I am currently in my 25 years (thank God I look like a teenager!) And no college degree. The thing that keeps me going is simple the realization that I am simple having a premature midlife crysis.
Maybe I am not in the "I always know" group, and don't have the money, but so do people that lost a lot of money in useless degrees 🤷
