They should have evacuated that island. I used to live on Ft Myers Beach, and those people didn't stand a chance. This didn't have to be this bad.

Didn't most residents of Sanibel manage to evacuate before the hurricane hit? Some stayed behind to "ride out" the storm, maybe some believed the storm wouldn't be a big deal, and some may have had challenges to evacuate, but they live on a barrier island. Shouldn't they be prepared to find a way off well ahead of time, contact the City, their neighbors, family, whomever to have a plan in place? I used to live on Sanibel and I had a plan to get off quickly. I almost did, twice, but the storms went elsewhere. Hurricanes do that....

the governor should listen to his own advice about disparaging people who are handing issues to the best of their ability.

People are blaming Desantis for this hurricane. It's not his fault the hurricane hit Florida. Look at the damage they are doing the best they can. Bless all the people of Florida. Stop blaming and help people that are suffering.

What's going on in the poorer lower income neighborhoods? Why no reporting on those people or it's just they aren't as important as mom and dads condo and all the wealthy beach front properties and destroyed boats?
I'm sure they had serious storm damage where they live and now some are homeless as well. Is Biden going to give them money to replace their possession and find a place to live?
What's going on with the electricity being restored there? Are those people going to be last?

IMAGINE HOW STRONG OUR COUNTRY WOULD BE IF CONGRESS SPENT THEIR DAYS WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ELECTED THEM INSTEAD OF THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THEM

Why would anyone willingly stay when a cat 4 is coming? 😮😮😮 We had days and days to prepare. Everyone knows the hurricanes can and absolutely do strengthen & do turn of a dime. Drive to anyplace, away from the hurricane’s path, bring food & sleep in your car if needed. There is NO excuse for NOT evacuating if u have any way out of town. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

It's their own fault fir losing their life due to this hurricane. They were told a few days in advance the storm was category 4 and headed for Florida. I feel sorry for them for what happened but not sorry that they made a bad decision. I feel sorry for the children that died cos their parents decided not to leave. It's Florida and this happens every year, you must be smarter than that.

Leave it to the NBC family of political actors masquerading as news to imply that DeSantis was late in his response, if not specifically state so . DeSantis did a great job.

The Sharpie showed they were safe. So sad for the people that listened to the "imperfect information" and paid the price.

Who said this storm came in so fast? Hurricane Ian was moving only 10 miles per Hour, that's not so fast! That part of Florida was experiencing thunderstorms from Ian 48 hours before landfall, the storm was 500 miles away then. Don't put your life in the hands of weatherman in the face of a Monster

Doubling down and saying you wouldn't change a thing isn't helping anyone. After a major disaster you have to look back and learn from it so that the same mistakes isn't made again and that the death toll is kept as low as possible for the next hurricane.

The people of Florida don't want him there. He's very close to America's southern border though. He should visit?

If there were never a antenna built known as a Ionospheric heater, or ever a low frequency microwave tower, or ever a patent for cloud seeding, you would never have to know the destruction of a "Hurricane"!!!
