You don't need forcasters to tell you to evacuate, when you see a storm that is a catagory 3+ and you live in the coast, THAT is your evacuation. everyone is just too comfortable in Florida.

I live in Lee, still without power and they DID send out evacuation orders within a safe time here. People underestimated the power of this storm. The picture of the island bridge on this clip with the island tore through under the bridge looks like Sanibel. It is also cut off from its only bridge, Pine Island lost both of theirs.

after going through hurricane harvey and having my houses flooded, i realized you dont fully understand how devastating and upending these hurricanes are until you go through one yourself. it took me almost 2 full years to get back to "normal" living. my heart goes out to you guys in Florida. i know what you're going through, hang in there.

This is so sad. Thank you, all search, rescue, recovery and power crews, God bless you, all victims and their families.😢

Hurricanes are unpredictable, not our/anyones fault when people choose to stay! Freedom of choice! However, if someone chooses to stay, don’t blame the government. Are y’all new to hurricane alley? Not sure why the media wants to throw that out there?

We had plenty of time to get out. We were in zone B and our evacuation notice came over 24 hours before the storm hit. We had at least 15 hours to get what we needed and leave. Anyone who stayed and hunkered down obviously Made that choice on their own with plenty of information in front of them.

If someone tells you your gonna be faced with 10 to 15 foot storm surge with 130+ mph winds you get out the way. I can say there are many reasons I never wanna live by the ocean and this is one of them.

Keep in mind this Devastation was supposed to be headed to the north where everybody was prepared and almost certainly everybody was evacuated this took an unexpected turn right into the Lee County area and nobody was expecting it, the governor did an excellent job in preparation for This Disaster and the aftermath, we pray for our dead and to comfort our wounded thank you to the people, our neighbors and everyone involved in the Cleanup and Surch & Rescue of the survivors,

I don't understand what they think should have happened? The storm shifted in the final hours heading toward Lee county. The day before it was supposed to go to Tampa Bay. What are they supposed to do? Evacuate the whole west side of Florida? Because there's no telling where the storm is exactly going to hit. It's just not feasible to do that. This is just the mother nature, no one is at fault here. This is the risk you take living in Florida. Maybe this will deter people from moving here, everyone comes to Florida more than any other state. All these newbies, they don't understand what's it like down here. Hopefully these snowbirds and northerners will decide to pack up and go somewhere else. Us natives are tired of the constant influx

What I don't understand is that people knew it was coming, but choose to stay and risk there lives for material things. I can understand that stuff has sentimental value. But when life and limb are on the line, in the end that stuff is just that. Stuff. Not worth dying for. Not worth putting others in harms way. Don't get me wrong. I feel so sad for all affected.

Not to be rude but why do people live in these disaster prone areas??? 🤔 Why does the government allow people to live in the same areas they know will be hit every year by natural disasters? “Oh its cheaper”. How can it be cheaper if you have to rebuild and replace homes in the same areas every year? All at the risk of people’s life just to save some money???! 🤷‍♂️ Only to have to pay more just to rebuild/replace it. What’s the point? Just don’t have anyone live there!

I don’t know how these people didn’t hear a level 4 hurricane was coming. What were they thinking? It might miss me. Anyone anywhere who thinks riding out a hurricane is a good idea is nuts.

Exactly why I don’t live near the water. What’s the highest elevation in Florida? History repeats itself. How many past city’s are in a water grave?

I am not sure exactly what people expect. Natural disasters bring destruction and death. We should feel bad for those people that lose their life and possessions regardless of anything else. We should try to help those affected. We should try to minimize the death and destruction while at the same time acknowledge it will occur.

This sheriff is a joke. So conceited in this time where leadership is needed.

I really hope people aren't trying to do a look back and try to find blame to blame on people because that would be really messed up because you knew the hurricane was coming
