Rescue teams are searching for survivors in some of Florida’s hardest hit areas. The Coast Guard, Florida National Guard, and local agencies have teamed up to save more than 2,000 people and 150 pets so far. Crews are restoring power to half a million people, but more than 700,000 people still remain without it. Ian’s death toll now stands at 87, but is expected to rise.

This is so heartbreaking… that many people died. Being in SoCal it’s just so weird to actually see this.. props to the doggy for checking the odor.

Please change the building codes. Paper houses cannot withstand hurricanes nor any natural disasters. You must use blocks, steels, stones and cement to build proper infrastructure. Sea walls are also critical. Where no seawalls can be built, huge rocks must be transported and placed around the coastlines strategically so as to protect the integrity of soil movements and people's livelihood.

People who could have left who don't, we shouldn't try to rescue them.

You have days of notice for a hurricane and you chose to stay vs leave.

So since you didn't then you are on your own.

There is no way I would risk my life to save someone who could have save themselves.

It’s not like they were warned days before to evacuate or seek shelter

I feel badly because the door to door searches will be telling. The recovery aspect will start, only so many days for search and rescue. Infrastructure will take months, if not longer. The🙏💜

I can understand their not wanting to evacuate & leave your home - I never evacuate but my old house is built solid however almost a Cat 5 ???!!! That's as bad as it gets -it'd be hard but slmost a Cat 5 might be time go pack it in?? Not worth your life

Someone from Maryland commented elsewhere. When a hurricane destroyed bridge where Assateague island is. People could no longer live there. Specifics I'm not sure of. It's what they decided to do. I myself always wanted to go to Sanibel. Was supposed to be great for seashells. The storm probably caused several things to hit the beaches. I knew a woman in Fort Myers. Hope she survived.
